This is why comedians, while clever, aren't usually put in charge of anything important.

Even though I am currently sitting at my office desk in the city of Springfield, MA, I can't disagree with that sentiment.

Having lived in New Haven for a while, I can't disagree.

I think he should have gone the Michael Richard's route and called them "crackers." It would have broken the ice, you know what I'm saying?

-Hartford does indeed suck.

from about 3:00 into the video: " i felt bad when kramer did that shiat to us. i did, i was a farking seinfeld fan till the end, but when he did that shiat, i was like "kramer, you farked up. you lost me there." that was the black dude in me. the comedian in me was just like "whew! this n*gga is having a tough set... hang in there kramer, don't let them break you"

i love the way dave chapelle looks at life and can separate the shiat from the shiat

As a resident of CT, I agree.

Man up, stop crying over it and do your damn job.  I didn't get to sit in front of a theater and do nothing because some assholes pissed in a cup, or threw condoms/tampons on the ground and get paid.  And I don't get to ignore lawyers and tell them I'm not doing their case anymore now because they are obstinate and just like arguing for the sake of arguing or said something I didn't like.

If a loud crowd or a few drunk people get your panties in such a knot maybe you shouldn't be doing stand up.

That's the thing, it wasn't a few drunk people. It was a bunch of drunk people and venue security wasn't doing anything about it

Considering the now well-established string of walk-offs and bad shows, can we now agree that Dave Chappelle has lost his goddamned mind and can't do stand up comedy anymore because he forgot how to deal with hecklers?

Eh, move the CT Science Center and the Mark Twain House, make sure the Dr. Seuss museum is safe, and arrange it so none of the fallout affects Six Flags New England? Then I can go with it.

So?  Have you never dealt with drunk people before?  I did every friday-sunday night at a movie theater, and we had actual cops there that didn't do shiat.  I didn't get to throw up my hands, refuse to clean up the vomit and sit in a corner getting paid minimum wage.

It's not like this baby is doing improv and can't do it because of the heckling.  Just run through the entire routine as quickly as possible, he has it memorized anyways.

Do your damn job.  Got an issue, here's a tissue.  Cry moar, and all that.

Interesting read. Dave not performing couldn't stem from just idiot fans though, right? How did the article know the audience was predominantly white? I had a ticket and it didn't ask my race, and I saw plenty of other races there as well. I don't think I could begin to assume which race was the majority in the crowd.

Well bombing Hartford would just be bombing a bunch of black people.  West Hartford is where the white people are.  Chappelle you are acting like an idiot.  Hartford has some shiatty colleges and I bet it was some idiots from University of Hartford being jackasses like usual.

2013-09-05 03:37:49 PM
Everybody has bad sets.  It's harder for someone like Chapelle to have one, because he has an audience already on his side.  Two, three, five in a row and there's something else at play.  At some point something snapped in his brain and it hasn't healed yet.

As a comedian he should never blame the audience (there are good and bad crowds).  His job is to adjust to the audience at hand, which apparently he has lost the ability to do.

It's a well known maxim from the Stand-Up world that nearly all successful black stand-up comedians go insane.  Nobody knows why, perhaps they get an extra slice of the misery that forms most comics.

fixxor So you'd take out the NBA HOF, the Springfield Armory & original Indian Motorcycle Factory?

I just want to know why it was necessary to point out their race. Is being a "white alcoholic" like 50 times worse than being any other kind of alcoholic?

If a white comedian referred to a crowd of African Americans as a bunch of "black alcoholics" would you approve? But it's OK for a black guy to be racist to white people (because you hold black people to a lower standard)?

Stand up comics of any race generally don't last into old age... I think maybe George Carlin is one of the few exceptions I can think of. You don't have to be terribly messed up to be a comic but apparently it helps a lot.

Most comics are really neurotic and many had bad childhoods.  I'd say it's a higher percentage than the stripper/daddy issue correlation.  I've never met a comic who wouldn't benefit from lots of counseling.

Fark that noise. He's at a point in his life and his career where he doesn't have to put up with that sort of bullshiat it if doesn't want to. Not wanting to deal with the bullshiattier aspects of your job is a point everyone wants to reach, so good for him that he doesn't have to, and fark the drunken dolts who gave him a hard time. They're no different than the rude customers we routinely call out here in customer service threads.

Because you were a wage slave who needed the money. If you weren't, you wouldn't have put up with that shiat, and you're a liar if you say otherwise.

This guy doesn't have to put up with bullshiat anymore and can do exactly what you wanted to do when you were a minimum wage drone - throw his hands up and walk out. I see no reason to begrudge him for that.
