Why the hell does Fark link to io9, a shiatty website, when they could have gone straight to the source over at Bad Astronomy.  In addition to the text io9 lifted, there is more information on Plaits site. so uth_pole_by_mars_express_spacecraft.html

Composite images of mars from orbits and flybys are nice, kind of like eating the pictures of food off of expired coupons while mom an dad are too busy fighting again and drinking too much to drive you to the restaurant so you can get real food.
