While we all love Sex, Drugs and Carlton Cole, I'm more interested in Andy Carroll being able to do a literal heel turn.

How the f*ck is City above Liverpool? How is Man U, who have 1 win and haven't scored in two games, above Liverpool?

How indeed.  In the US we call it the Peter King effect.

As a follower (weakly) of the only team who has yet to find the bloody net, #17 is too damned high.

Took me forever to realise that the "B" stood for "Barclays"

Also, after the most recent games, Liverpool should be above Moyeschester United

Yes. Power Rankings for a purely league based competition is pointless, especially when there is no unbalanced schedule issue.

If you use the term "league tables" your friends will know you are a true association football supporter.

This takes style into account. Liverpool gets a one-slot cushion for every match that no one gets bitten. That sort of thing.

Yes, Virginia, writers who know sweet FA about the PL will put Citeh (struggled v. Hull) and United (lost to Liverpool) ahead of Liverpool (9 from 9).

*facepalm*

Buddy of mine has an Aston Villa. Sweet ride.

I'm making my stand early on, its still the EPL v BPL.  Like changing the NFL to the whatevercorporatesponsorhereFL, it shouldn't happen. When did everyone start accepting this?  20th is far too high for Da Canio's side, even with only 20 in the league.  I understand Jozy didnt even feature last match?

Gotta love how they ranked Fulham, which has played with all the grace of a car wreck, in 14th, while Cardiff is 16th, playing like a real team.

Since NBC can't be arsed to look at an ASCII table to spell Özil right, I'm going to leave a few extra Ö  Ö Ö  Ö  Ö  Ö Ö Ö  here for them, as well as a link to an ASCII chart they can refer to later. http://www.asciitable.com/

Up the Gunners!

Also, how is Chelsea the "strongest" side? They got preferential treatment against Villa, turtled against MU and played 20 minutes of good football against Hull, only to turtle again. Strongest side my ass.

And though it's not league football, that crushing loss to Bayern is kind of hard to ignore.

I'm not going to complain yet. We've played three great first halves thus far. Consequently, we've been very meh in two second halves and downright terrible in the one against 'Villa.

I wish nbc would list a team's record the way it's done in the British media: W-D-L, not W-L-D.

The second half of the Man U game was uncomfortable to the point of pain.

After such pace and possession in the first half, they just seemed content to sit on the lead and hope Man U couldn't score.

Turns out, it worked, but I know what you mean.

Yeah, and honestly Man U just seemed out of it. Van Persie had a biatch fit near halftime and was barely a factor at all. I think we got a bit lucky in that game; felt like United were just giving it maybe 80% effort and concentration out there until maybe the final 10 minutes. With the amount of possession they had in that whole second half they should have at least sniffed the goal more than they did.

Yeah I saw this part of the article "The Power Rankings take into account the strength of schedule" and figured these would be a bad case of trying to "Americanize" the product.

Spurs at 6? That's about right.

And is there any team that everyone loves (as long as they're not playing your team) more than Swansea?

2013-09-04 03:04:11 PM
While I can't biatch about Liverpool not being #1 (because three 1-0 wins where we weren't super impressive in the 2nd half in 2 of those wins is a legit reason), the Manchester teams should not be that high. City was outclassed by Cardiff and was very average against Hull. And United weren't good against Chelsea and against Liverpool. It makes no sense in that regard.

To be fair Arsenal couldn't find the Öeither, that's why they couldn't announce the transfer until 10:30.

Moved to Atlanta - went to Browns v Falcons that season (Charlie Frye beat Michael Vick)

Sitting in front of me were villa fans that were visiting and thought they would support the Browns - I offered to return the favor. Later they mailed me an '81 throwback shirt - I sent a Brady Quinn jersey.

Good guys - but I should have guessed we we just introducing each other to similarly disappointing passions.

I was wondering about the "strength of schedule" part myself.  By definition, the champion of the league will have the weakest strength of schedule every year by virtue of not playing themselves, so it seems like a stupid metric to consider here...

They already changed from the First Division to the English Premier League purely for financial gain.  What's another name change among corporate friends?

Unless you're looking at the standings at the end of the season (or possibly halfway through if the schedule pans out right), there's an unbalanced schedule issue.

Exactly. Though at the end of the season, it all works out, right now if you had a team that had played at Man City, vs Man U, at Liverpool, and had managed 2 points, that's better than a team which had played the 3 newly promoted squads and was on 4 points.
Regardless, I think what we're here to ask is WHAR GRAF WHAR?
