I thought Republicans wanted the government out of our lives? Boy, yall sure have changed in the past few years. But it's okay, we're only what, a half a trillion in debt? Oh wait, weren't you guys for fiscal responsibility, too?

This deserves a "DUMBASS tag.

2004-01-14 03:58:56 PM
We need a WTF tag.

"I just take the quick route, and pee on my hands."

I think Fark is where I saw this joke.
A Yale guy and a Harvard guy are in the men's room. When both are done peeing, the Yale guy goes to wash his hands, and he sees the Harvard guy leaving the bathroom. The Yale guy says to him, "At Yale, when we are done peeing, we wash our hands."

The Harvard guy says to him, "At Harvard, we don't pee on our hands."

Why my tax dollars?

Amen. So, $1.5 Billion is being spent and it in no way benefits me or many of my peers.
Aside from religious implications or the choice to have kids, how does this work for childless, hard working singles?

2004-01-14 04:00:15 PM
RTFA, but not sure where that $1.5B goes. Is this a convenient way to slush shiatloads of cash into the coffers of moral crusaders? Is this an example of the "code language" GWs been accused of using to placate the religious right? Or, is this simply a touchy-feely program that is big on packaging, little on substance? As those Texans are quick to point out GW all hat and no cattle.

Marrige is natural, and thats why we have to spend 1.5 billion dollars to make people keep doing it.

Marriage is a good thing... this most people can agree on (as long as both people in the marriage are responsible, emotionally mature adults). But how exactly do throw money at an issue like this to promote better marriages?

Second: The two major reasons that marriages break up in the first place is because of infidelity and financial problems. I am not sure how we are going to fix the problem of infidelity... but a strong economy with plenty of jobs to go around tends to lower the number of divorces caused by financial problems.

Does that mean I can only eat 1800 calories per day?

/P.S. This is just as retarded as wasting billions on going to Mars and the Moon.

/P.S.P.S. There is nothing on the Moon or Mars, so why go there?

I'm with you... where the hell is all this money supposed to come from? The magic Jebus money tree in the sky? I'm not to the point where I'd vote democrat, but at least they stay pretty consistent with their supposed ideology. I can only think of bad things resulting from having "Big Gov't Conservatives", and it's all just as bad as if they were "Big Gov't Liberals".

Amen, brother.

BritneysSpeculum: Conservatives are such farking hypocrits.

So. You say that like it's a bad thing. You rationalists are all locked up with that "reason" thing. Conservatives are free to hold multiple conflicting opinions -- a freedom you shall never enjoy.

This is nothing compared to what liberals want to spend on promoting extra-marital sex.

By liberals I assume you mean the porn industry.

George Bush = Welfare For Churches

What unabashed, un-American scum this administration is....

Thanks, GW. We appreciate the thought. However, could you please spend some money on GETTING US LAID?! We're dying over here!

Great, now GWB thinks he's Emperor Augustus. Is he going to start taxing bachelors next? You ugly and/or nerdy farkers had better start sending away for your Russian brides NOW.

Hm. As someone who finds themselves suddenly single after a decade (against my will, I might add), I will take your views of the single life to heart!

I keep telling myself that if I repeat to myself "This is a good thing" often enough, I'll start to believe it.

2004-01-14 04:04:22 PM
Here's a newsflash for you all: It is ALL monopoly money to Bush. Look at his life. Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, bailed out every time he ran a business into the ground, got rich off a tiny investment with the Rangers because of his Daddy's rich friends...etcetera. Nothing in his life ever taught him the value of a dollar. Why should HE care? He'll never have to pay a dime of it back; we will!

Billions for Iraq, billions for spam-in-the-can space fantasies, billions for "healthy marriages", open the borders, bomb these people and bomb those!

What does he care? It's all a game to him! What fun! Yippee!

2004-01-14 04:04:24 PM
"but a strong economy with plenty of jobs to go around tends to lower the number of divorces caused by financial problems."

I would say also that community support is necessary for healthy families. Unfortunately, GW hasn't done much to promote job growth and community. So, this program sounds like a huge throw-away program to me.

My wife and I are pretty healthy, where can I sign up for some of this cash?

Your roomate is not the only one. Read this article about Rolling back the 20th Century.

Ballooing the debt with inanae spending brings the soccer-moms and other middle of the road feel-good moderates over in the short term and fufuills the plan by some right wing nuts to "drown the government in a bathtub".

2004-01-14 04:05:25 PM
I wouldn't have such a problem with this if he hadn't authorized just 1 Billion for research into alternative energy sources like hydrogen. I don't imagine that too many marriages will do so well when the oil's gone and it costs $100 to fill your car and $1000 a month to heat your hot water.

Guys, quit spending so much on stupid crap. Please?

2004-01-14 04:06:29 PM
Did anyone actually read the article? According to the article, the $1.5 billion will come from conservative groups. That is not taxpayer money.

2004-01-14 04:06:32 PM
Funny, conservatives bash the hell out of public service projects that directly benefit people (like, I don't know...sex education and condom distribution) and yet can somehow justify a huge sum of money (going to the same group of people) to teach people how to best keep a shiatty marriage together just for the sake of keeping people married.

So, thank you for removing one attack from your bag of tricks...the attack that liberals (alone) want to take your money and give it to the poor.

2004-01-14 04:06:38 PM
Oh anathama, you had to ask him... LOL

2004-01-14 04:07:22 PM
$1.5 billion? We're going to have to implement a lot more tax cuts to come up with that kind of money.

farking liberals are always crying about "help the children" but anytime a GOP member tries to do something they shiat all over it.

It's either the Xtians or Big Business that makes all the laws now. Forget debating bills or ideas or the 3 branches of government. Each day even the slightest concept of Bush being similar to some totalitarian leader becomes truer and truer. Not to mention his new space plans. If you think he gives a fark about space you are a fool. He is pandering to the voters. Just like every program he claims to care about. He'll talk about it, pledge money and then cut its budget. Example, every child left behind.

As Margaret Cho said "George Bush is not Hitler. He would be if he farking applied himself."

I only feel slightly better after this rant. I must rant more........

2004-01-14 04:08:07 PM
Remember when he spent all that money to promote the new twenty dollar bill? Man, those were some good laughs we had that day.

2004-01-14 04:08:15 PM
The GOP is generally in hot water over issues like this--mainly because the top leadership doesn't give a rat's ass about issues like this--but deep pocketed Christian Conservatives do, and it leads the party down the primrose path to court their cash, and their votes, and their networks. Which gives us some of the more asinine policy decisions, that are immediately at odds with other actions.

And that's why I joined up with the Republican Party yesterday. Going to invite all y'all who keep bugging about the GOP to do the same. Vote in your primaries, and get involved, because the only way the party is going to get itself back together, or at least jettison some of this tripe, is for citizens to get involved.

While fairly Conservative in a lot of areas, I can't put my stamp of approval on what the GOP has been advocating over the last few years, because it doesn't make a lot of sense, in the long term--or rather for the long term good of the nation, as opposed to the long term good of a few companies and their top execs, or a few hundred top families with steady, rockin' cash. So, rather than biatching about it, I'm signed up to change it. Try to get candidates on ballots that I think WILL do a good job, and jettison some of the selfish whackjobs that are massaging egos and getting their pockets deepened in the service of their country. And I suggest the same for all those who think the GOP has gotten whacky as well, Conservative or Liberals alike. Preaching to the choir is satisfying and all, but in the end, what good does it do. You want to fight the good fight, you can't just pick easy targets. Get in there. Wrassil it around.

2004-01-14 04:08:19 PM
The divorce rate in the country stems from people who are not supposed to be together in the first place getting married because society tells them to. I am sure my friend whose husband beat her is better off being divorced. And WTF? Who cares about divorce? Its just a silly end to a silly insitution.
