They delayed the episodes because it was a holiday weekend, and fewer people would be at home to watch.
Same thing they did with Game of Thrones on Memorial Day.

I wanted McKenzie to die off after the first season, but she has become marginally not headache inducing this season. However Pill needs to go. She is hands down the worst character on the show.

Absolutely agreed. Mac toned it down quite a bit which has been great. I just don't understand why I'm supposed to root for Maggie (Pill) and her love of Jim. They knew each other for like a day and a half before they decided they were in love and the audience is supposed to care? I know it was the first season and I need to give the writers the benefit as they flesh out the characters, but she is just getting worse. And I'm supposed to believe her desire to do good in Uganda despite only caring about the country for a couple weeks? She is just blah all around. On the bright side, this is my biggest problem in life right now.

MacKenzie is somehow less shrill this season. Maybe I'm just not noticing as much because they are developing Don, Sloan and that Indian kid more. Which is awesome on all counts.

Didn't like the first season either, but the second has been a vast improvement. Especially since they dropped the whole love triangle subplot.

And that's cool. It's just my personal view.

I agree with the premise of the show, that our news sucks and our politics suck. And I'd probably agree with most of the stuff they put on there. I just don't think I can take the way they deliver the message, it seems way too in-your-face.

I like the show, if only because its existence enrages hillbillies. Thought the second season was far better than the first. The most annoying thing about the show is Maggie. I can't stand her stupid face with the beady little doll eyes and always brooding. Send her back to Uganda and kill her off please.

Le Grand Inquisitor: The show is quickly running out of material...a problem programmed into the show when they set it in the distant past of 3 years ago. Way to go HBO

They actually seem to have solved that problem this year with the Genoa storyline.  I mean, how much material could they have gotten out of Benghazi and yet it was relegated to about five minutes at the end of the last episode?  They are moving a little faster than real time (about 15-16 months per season), but there's no reason why the next season couldn't cover November 2012 to summer or fall of 2013.  I also don't see this being a seven season show (more like four or five) so it's entirely possible they end up catching up (or coming close) and just call it quits.

2013-09-04 11:20:21 AM
This season has been really, really, really average. The last episode finally got back to first season quality, mostly due to Jane Fonda knocking it out of the park in the last few minutes. Also, anyone who choose Allison Pill over meg-super-hot-rational-not-crazy roommate deserves whatever misery they get.

Don't like her either. Just got to her Africa episode and I have to say that what happened is a horrible tragedy but I really don't think the pay off of what happened was worth it. They really hyped it up, but maybe there's more to it.

They just now found out it was renewed? I don't know how that works...I'm guessing they wait for rating results. Anyway, I'm glad it was picked up, especially after a lot of good shows I watched regularly (Magic City, Go On, Up All Night) were cancelled.

I just read True Blood had been cancelled, and Dexter is in its (mercifully) last season. I'm hoping Homeland is back to its original season form, as I'm running out of cable shows to watch, especially with Braking Bad ending as well.

I agree with you, actually. Sorkin is really heavy-handed, and it's definitely way too much at times. I wish every episode were for me like the Giffords one is. The episode this season in which Maggie was in Africa and bonded with the little African boy was ridiculous. I saw the ending coming a mile away, and it struck me as lazy writing. As it stands, Newsroom is the last of the Sunday shows my DVR records that I watch, and I usually don't watch it until well into the following week. When The Good Wife returns, it will fall even further in my queue. It's a shame, because the premise is up my alley, and West Wing and Sports Night are two of my favorite series of all time.

Dexter has got to be the most contrived tripe ever put on a TV screen. It seemed like it was good in the first season, only because it was a new idea.

Yes, Mac got better but Maggie AND Sloan got progressively worse.  Those two must be the most horribly written female characters on television.  Women do not act or speak that way.  When it comes to women, it's like Sorkin only knows how to write C.J. Cregg clones and awful stereotypes.

Although I do like Jane Fonda's character.  But I think that's largely her channeling her ex-husband.
