Oh boy, Oingo Boingo and their minor chords! How quirky and zany!

That's a really misleading headline, as he's not playing with Oingo Boingo.  He's just performing some of the songs from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

/Fark you, submitter//Got my hopes up///Actually saw Oingo Boingo play back in '87.

Technically subby didn't say Elfman hasn't performed on stage since (he has, this exact thing, last year). The tour idea is new, which was previously a no go because of progressive hearing loss.

/Now I've got Only A Lad stuck in my head.

He's only a lad, he can handle a concert tour.

He's swinging through NY and Kim Gordon is suddenly single. COINCIDENCE?

Will there be french horn players stuck playing on the upbeat for the entire show?

2013-09-04 07:19:40 AM
Did someone say "French horn"?

This concert tour seems more appropriate for a darkened theatre.

I had no idea Danny Elfman was part of Oingo Bingo.

As someone who was turned onto Oingo Boingo too late to catch them live, I must say that this excites me greatly.

Oingo Boingo was an actual group?

In the early days of MTV, they had about 10 videos to play, including one from Oingo Boingo , which they repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated.

That was tiresome.

So basically we've got Steve Bartek doing the work and Danny Elfman taking the bows and possibly whacking a xylophone a few times.  Business as usual.

I need me a full Boingo reunion otherwise it's just another day.

Great, now I have Nothing Bad Ever Happens to me stuck in my head.

Saw them live at the Boathouse in Norfolk during the Dead Mans Party tour one of the best shows I ever saw.

R.I.P. The Boathouse. Such a great place to go see shows even though it was a dump..Its always sad when the place where you saw your fave bands play is gone

Fark you subby, got me all excited.  Then I RTFA.  Meh.

Getting old sort of sucks, but at least it means I was the right age to see several of the Boingo Halloween shows when I was Only a Lad (sorry, couldn't resist).  Their final San Diego show (penultimate show before the farewell) was my last show with them and happened at a major transition point in my life.  The end of that band became wrapped up with the end of so many other parts of my youth.  It was sad, but also a bit cathartic, and so now hearing their songs definitely evokes more of a feeling of my youth and that time period in a way that many other songs from the same time period just don't.

I will always enjoy that music, and will see the tribute band whenever I get a chance, but I accept that the era has ended.

/Oh, and Steve Bartek is the real talent there.  Sorry Danny.

If your song doesn't have a xylophone solo it ain't shait.

/Saw them in '87. Hell of a good time.

I'm not a fan of his film music, but the man wrote Grey Matter, We Close Our Eyes, Flesh & Blood and Stay, that's good enough for me.

I got into Oingo Boingo just a little before they broke up, so I never got to see them perform. Yet even when I read the (deliberately?) misleading headline, I thought, "It probably wouldn't be that much fun to see a bunch of 65 year olds creaking out their old songs two octaves lower so they can still try to sing them..."

I remember reading an interview, I think on Suicide Girls, where Elfman swore he was never going to perform live rock music again, ever, due to the hearing damage it already gave him.
