This is why you learn how to build your own splint. Broken ankles are a small problem next to being airborne strapped to a gurney.

The man is understood to have weighed more than 100 kilograms.

The winch didn't snap, or at least TFA didn't mention that happening. It said he was at the door and they were trying to get him in the door when he fell.

It also said that it was 30m, not 90m, bad Subby.

It sounds like the problem might have been because the guy was a huge manatee.

Correct, if he was 100 kilo and 6'2" then he was merely 60 pounds overweight according to your chart. But he was described as "over 100 kg" which is code for the man was a land whale.

The article writer is telling you the answer.

That sucks. I mean I know obesity is deadly, but I was thinking like "heart attack deadly", not "falling out of helicopter" deadly.

I don't know about this chart. I'm constantly told I'm ~50 lbs underweight, but according to this chart I'm borderline normal at 6'0-6'1 and 60kg.

This is why you don't use a winch line that could snap

Stuff White People Like #128
Camping

If you find yourself trapped in the middle of the woods without electricity, running water, or a car you would likely describe that situation as a "nightmare" or "a worse case scenario like after plane crash or something." White people refer to it as "camping."

[...]Camping is a multi-day, multi-step, potentially lethal activity that will cost you a large amount of both time and money. Unless you are in some sort of position where you absolutely need the friendship of a white person, you should avoid camping at all costs.

[...]any camping trip that ends in death at the hands of nature or requires the use of valuable government resources for a rescue is seen as relatively positive in white culture. This is because both situations might eventually lead to a book deal or documentary film about the experience.

Ultimately the best way to escape a camping trip with white people is to say that you have allergies. Since white people and their children are allergic to almost everything, they will understand and ask no further questions.[...]

Must remember that this also includes "hiking". Good lord, how awful.

Those charts are completely useless. They don't take into account different body types or muscle mass. One of my best friends is considered almost fat on that chart but he's just ridiculously muscular. shiat that chart says Christian Bale in the machinist is only like 15 pounds underweight...

I once broke my ankle while out hiking. Luckily for me, I always carry a bottle of high proof alcohol whenever I go out (pain killer, firestarter, disinfectant). I had no cell service where I was and was solo so I made a makeshift crutch and sipped on the booze while I made it back to my vehicle. Longest three miles I had ever walked.

Pretty much. By the time I got back to my vehicle I was exhausted and not going anywhere anytime soon. But sleeping in there was better than the alternative. It was not a bad break and I only had an air cast put on. The ball of my ankle broke off vertically

With the alcohol you may have to do a Barry Sanders mile conversion

hmm so he went hiking because his doctor told him he was to fat, he broke his ankle because the ankle could not support the weight anymore, the chopper door was relative small and then the one medic lost the bet,

To clarify,  a 16 stone man fell 0.0054 leagues.  Or it was a 16 and a half fathoms fall for a man weighing about 2.2 hundredweights (short).

//fun with unit conversions!

You're normal.  Everybody else has gotten fatter.  Watch some old B&W movies and be amazed by how skinny everybody looks compared to people today.
