The last few seasons were the best.

Bill turning into an evil bastard was amazing.

If you were only watching it for Sookie and Bill staring at each for 10 minutes of every episode, then sure, you wouldn't have liked the more recent episodes.

Cubansaltyballs: Seemed like a retarded show.

No, I never watched that sh*t.

It's only retarded like Twin Peaks is retarded, i.e. you get it or you don't, and if you don't, you probably take it way too seriously.

Yes, Sookie is a freakin' idiot. Yes, she is meant to be. No, the show does not take itself particularly seriously, even if the chosen show conventions would indicate otherwise.

Lots of vampires and freaky sex with hot chicks.  Much better than sparkly.

They are having to end it because Sookie has banged every supernatural creature in Bonne Tonne.

I liked the first three seasons, but season 5 was just boring and I'm just starting to watch 6 now.

I am glad that they are letting it finish up, but it is the right decision.

I agree but this last season was numbing. Sorry.

Wow. That's just... wow. I mean, it'd been years since I first watched True Blood and it was only a month or two ago that I started again, but even after such a short time I really developed strong feelings that will make the cancellation quite affecting for me.

And you know, it almost seems like they knew it would happen, or perhaps it was simply a matter of the network taking the opportunity based on how the story was progressing, but they tied up a lot of loose ends with this season, didn't they? And even though they established a new paradigm by the end, one could almost say it was a necessary coda just to let the fans know that those characters' lives go on, the way lives do for characters that have become so well explored.

Cancellation, like Death does to all who live, comes to every program on TV at some point. There just arrives a moment, regardless of the feelings of those who produce, star in or watch the show, when the curtain falls and does not rise again. In such a moment as this I'm reminded of the words of the old guy floating in the oil-filled hold of the supertanker in Waterworld when the Mariner dropped the road flare in: "Oh, thank God."

/I wonder what new show HBO will put on that will satisfy their weekend nudity requirement.

2013-09-04 02:00:56 AM
The last episodes of this last season were some of the greatest TV I've ever seen. A somber funeral intertwined with grotesque Vampire carnage. Jason's speech to the religious nut at the very end. Bill totally freaking the fark out with his Super Vampire Powers. A 1,000 year old Vampire sunbathing in the nude.. It was just one beautifully over-the-top moment after another.

Man. I'm gonna miss this show.

2013-09-04 02:08:27 AM
Although I like the show for some of its qualities -- the nudity, some of the racism and segregation allegory -- one thing that it is really useful for is getting girls really hot and bothered.

I don't know why it works but it does. Invite some chick over, pour some wine (or whiskey, if you're lucky) and put on True Blood. You won't need to make a move.

HeeHaw the Masquerade was a good time killer. It seemed like the last few seasons have been 20 minutes of actual story and 30 of mind numbing boredom. Oh well, why can't they make another Rome? Game of thrones is a poor substitute.

I was compelled to watch the first season. It was alright, had its moments. An interesting cast of characters. But by the time the second season rolled around it just started to become too harlequin. I didn't stick around for more.

It's 'Bon Temps' with the French pronunciation, which (on the show) is basically 'bawn tawmp'.

Stop now and save yourself the brain cells. Season 6 was awful.

I quite enjoyed the T&A factor of the show, but if you found season 5 tedious 6 is like having a root canal. Long nothings with far too few nekid people. Whole episodes with barely a boob. And the dialog felt like told the actors to improv it on the spot.

I hear that the finale has the cast heading up to New Jersey, where the vampires and werewolves attack Holsten's diner, with the final shot being footage James Gandolfini looking up as they enter.

There hasn't been a badass or hardcore vampire since Bram Stoker's Dracula w/ Gary Oldman.
Buffy was drek, pure and simple.

Lol.

This show was a guilty pleasure for the wife and me.  People who complain about the acting/writing are missing the point--demanding all your entertainment be "good" is a heavy weight to bear.  Even so, every season had one or two points that were jaw droppingly fantastic.

It's also a show built around it's supporting characters.  We pretty much tuned out Bill and Sookie after the second season.  My wife is hoping some fan uploads an edited version containing only Lafayette's story arcs.

Can't deny the show's aphrodesiac qualities, either.

It's the Hollywood machine. It told her she needed to be such and such negative size in order to be a valuable actress. Look at her picture as Rogue earlier in the thread. She was thin but not to the extreme as she is now. Her face went from being soft to being hollowed out.

Maybe HBO will green light a Jason Stackhouse will get a were-panther spinoff?

I know it's not considered a cinematic masterpiece, but I thought Danny Huston in 30 Days of Night was pretty darn scary.
