Etheline Glycol is not Propylene Glycol

One is Anti-freeze, the other is recognized by the FDA as "generally safe" for human consumption.

E-Cigarettes use Propylene Glycol, the FDA safe food additive. Or, if chemical names creep you out, you can also get smoke fluid in Vegetable glycerine.

This is the same shiat that is used in commercial fog machines. If they caused serious damage, every roadie for every rock band ever would be dead from inhaling the fumes.

If smoking weren't banned virtually everywhere, this loser would think they were the greatest thing ever invented.

Loser.

1. E-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals.
 - according to one study from 4 years ago. I know (with as much certainty as I do anything else I consume) what is in my liquid, and it isn't toxic.

2. Kids and teens can buy them.
- no company/store I've ever seen will sell them to minors.

3. While cigarette companies say they don't market to kids, e-cigarettes come in flavors like cherry, strawberry, vanilla and cookies and cream milkshake.
- adults like those flavors too. See: vodka with the same flavors.

And the rest of those are too ridiculous to respond to.

From the "addicting" link:

So can e-cigarettes cause harm? The scientific evidence is that, compared with normal cigarettes, they are pretty benign. Burning dried tobacco leaves releases a toxic combination of more than 100 compounds, including vaporised tars, carbon monoxide, and nicotine. These substances can raise blood pressure and, in the case of the tars, may cause genetic changes in the cells lining the lungs and respiratory tract that in turn trigger cancer.

An e-cigarette looks like a real cigarette, but instead of tobacco smoke, the user inhales a puff of pure nicotine delivered by heating a capsule. Nicotine - the alkaloid "active ingredient" in tobacco - acts as a stimulant and is certainly highly addictive. But it is not known to be carcinogenic.

OH THE HUMANITY!!!

I've quit smoking almost overnight because of the E-cig. And I smoked for almost 30 years.

/F*CK YOU, E-cig haters.

And a little more on nicotine.

Risks and rewards of medicines will always be obfuscated by busybody assholes who want to impose some puritanical morality on others.

And if anyone's looking for a good source of equipment and liquids, check these guys out. My wife quit smoking 2 years ago thanks to them after a pack-a-day for 20 years.

I fear the industry may get shut down before too terribly long.

And no, I'm not on the payroll.

If you hate smoking, you should embrace e-cigarettes. No smell, no smoke, no health care costs. You have no argument against them other than maybe you don't like that people enjoy nicotine. In short, you're an asshole.

This article reminds me of Reefer Madness.  It's not even worth discussing since half of it is pure made up BS and the other half is true, but twisted to make it look different than it actually is.

E-cigs (which most people call vaping) work very well.

If you are a smoker interested in getting off the cigs, visit here and ask around.   I smoked heavy for 30+ years, and moved to vaping about 2 years ago.

Not arguing with you - or anyone in this thread - I vape constantly, but yeah...  VG is where the whole industry went. Some of the "name brand" companies still use PG and blends - but honestly... you get SOOO much more vapor from VG and while it might shorten the life of cartos and atties, well, they're super cheap and disposable anyway.

I don't know, this is all dodgy pro-tobacco scare mongering and hysterics by idiots. And frankly, if kids manage to scam some 0 nicotine fluid to hang out with their smoking peers to look cool- but aren't actually smoking or being addicted to anything, then good for them.

I smoked over a pack a day of tobacco cigarettes for almost 25 years. I had bad PFT tests, coughed up all kinds of nastiness every day and was in the doctors office for acute bronchitis every few months, but I still couldn't give the things up. Patches, cold turkey, gum, none of that shiat worked.

Then, almost 2 years ago, a friend let me try an eGo-C for a day. I ordered one that night, got it in the mail a couple of days later and have not looked back. I tried a tobacco cigarette when I was hanging out with friends, and the thing made me gag. I am finally free of those smelly things, and I can go for a bike ride or a long hike and not get winded right away. Yeah, I still use nicotine, but guess what? I also use caffeine and beer. It's a vice, but at least this delivery mechanism doesn't have all of the ill effects.

TL;DR version: Whatever anonymous chickenshiat wrote this can kiss my no longer smelling of cigarette smoke ass.

skinnycatullus: 1. E-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals.
 - according to one study from 4 years ago. I know (with as much certainty as I do anything else I consume) what is in my liquid, and it isn't toxic.

And that study was itself questionable, if it's the one I'm thinking of.  Of the two toxic chemicals found, one- diethylene glycol- was detected in only one of 18 cartridges tested (and the finding hasn't been replicated since then, AFAIK).  The other type, TSNAs, are present in roughly the same concentrations as a nicotine patch... which is about 0.1% to 0.2% of what you'd find in, say, a Marlboro.

This is presumably why the hit piece article didn't go into specifics on the findings.  It sounds much better when you just leave it at "contains toxic chemicals."

I clicked the link excited to find out how unhealthy the E-Cig in my hand is.  There is generally too little bad information for me to feel as comfortable with them as regular cigarettes.

Alas, my open mind was completely wasted pn a list of completely unrelated and questionably accurate statements.

2013-09-03 06:26:56 PM
What I find hilarious is tobacco companies have been dodging cancer accusations by focusing studies on just the nicotene.

Now here's a product that just delivers the chemical they've spent years clearing.

Oops.

1. E-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals.

So does the air you breath.

2. Kids and teens can buy them.

No they can't.

3. Whil cigarette companies say they don't market to kids, e-cigarettes come in flavors like ,,,

I know adults who like the different flavors.  Adults also like ice cream, which comes in fruit flavors, too.

4. Laws regulating cigarette ads don't yet apply to e-cigarettes.

Because e-cigarettes aren't the same.

5. And e-cigarette companies are spending a TON on advertising.

Just like any new product in the entire farking history of advertising.

6. E-cigarettes can be used in many places where smoking is banned.

Because it isn't smoking.

7. People think e-cigarettes can help them quit smoking.

The use of e-cigarettes has the HIGHEST success rate of any method available to quit smoking.

8. E-cigarettes aren't taxed like traditional tobacco products.

Because e-cigarettes aren't a farking tobacco product.

9. Despite unknown health consequences, e-cigarettes are poised to make inroads with a new generation of young people.

Not unknown.  There have been numerous studies on the health risks of e-cigarettes.  They are minimal.  Compared to smoking a cigarette, they are inconsequential.

2013-09-03 06:28:03 PM
1. E-cigarettes contain toxic chemicals.

-- Except the LD 50 on ethylene glycol is about 5g/kg.  Are you drinking several pounds of the stuff at a time?  No?  Then it's essentially the same as an inert, only slightly more dangerous than water.

2. Kids and teens can buy them.

-- Firstly, no, not really.  Secondly, even if so, who cares?  Tobacco is restricted due to tar and aldehyde-boosted nicotene, neither of those things are present in e-cigs.  They're a different product with different health effects, while they're not good for you they're no worse for you than eating fast food or drinking soda.

3. While cigarette companies say they don't market to kids, e-cigarettes come in flavors like cherry, strawberry, vanilla and cookies and cream milkshake.

-- ... all of those are traditional flavorings for tobacco.  I've got three hookah bars within five blocks of my office that offer all of those, and flavored cigars sell as well as unflavored if not better.  Just because cigarettes are the smoker's equivalent of scraping your smoke out of the bottom of the waste bin doesn't mean that e-cigs should be held to the cheap-ass standards of trash tobacco, they can market like high-end tobacco if they want.
