PsiChick: downstairs: PsiChick: I can hear much, much higher pitches than that. As in, the sound of an older TV being turned on.

I very much remember that sound.  I doubt I could hear it now (and have no 1970's TV to test on)... but yeah.

Try turning on your modern one and sitting a bit closer. It's quieter, but the sound is still there.

/Turn on music and it drowns it out, though

Yeah... But this one doesn't have any of the sounds from the video you linked. No bird. No squeak.  So you're trying to debunk with the wrong debunking video.

Not everything strange is a hoax. Some things are just misunderstandings.

That video covered more than just that. Those sounds are from Red State.

Here's a source, though the audio is heavily altered you can tell a lot is lifted from this scene.

This video is pretty clearly the sound of an industrial grinder on metal, but any inexplicable "hum" that people hear (that isn't a hoax) is probably a naturally formed or unintentional, man-made Aeolian Harp.

Yeah. I know the movie. I know the scene. The sound in the video at TFA is nothing like the sound of the trumpets in Red State. Not slowed down. Not sped up. It's a completely different sound.

I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's not Red State either.

Did you actually listen to the video at TFA? It's not one of the series of videos all using the same audio. This one is a completely different sound. It sounds like some huge metal objects scraping together and echoing off the mountains.

Sure, anyone can fake something already done. People can imitate bird sounds and bark like dogs.

But birds and dogs are still real.

...

The sounds are FROM A MOVIE.

They are not actual mysterious sounds recorded somewhere that are still unexplained. Someone created the sounds in a studio. Stop being gullible.

I can't find the video I saw but it sounds a lot like the red state trumpets lowest notes, only continuous and without any variation in tone or volume. I am sure it was a hoax, but it was a lot stranger sounding than this video. This sounds like loud machinery echoing.

Sounds like a train stopping or something.  God forbid you actually investigate by moving towards the sound instead of just watching some trees.   That's the best thing about these hum vids (and most paranormal vids in general) is that people never actually go investigate and try to document their investigation.  If I ever came across something genuinely weird I would absolutely stop everything I was doing and investigate as it could be proof of something that we've never actually gotten proof of ever before.  Which is pretty important.  It's almost as if all these kinds of videos are just desperate cries for attention and escapism from the boring ass world we live in most days...

Actually, I didn't want to admit it, but I did too, and I was quite a bit north of Detroit. It was louder than the recording on the video, and it was this long, low droning that you could feel as well as hear. At the time I thought it was pretty strange, but since then I just sort of forgot about it until this thread.

I never thought it was supernatural, but I did think it odd.

No one would have believed in the first years of the twenty-first century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.

GungFu: FTFA: Alisa Thompson claims it was a city worker grinding down a blade on a grader.

Please to ask what means this thank you so much? Is youthmism for small children school sex, no?

So there are these big machines called road graders, and they're commonly called 'graders'.  They have giant, curved blades that are used to smooth out, or grade, the soil.  Sometimes they're used to plow streets as well, though they're less good at that.  Since they go through dirt and rocks all the time, they tend to get nicked, dulled, and slightly warped.  Here they're saying that a city employee was using a grinder, as in a tool designed to grind metal, to hone & repair the damaged blade of an aforementioned road grader.

\But I also hope you were trolling rather than seriously confused about this point.

LavenderWolf: truchaos: I know it sounds like bullshiat but I heard the same sound in Gambrills Maryland last year.  It was accompanied by a very intense low frequency vibration that literally made the air pressure feel like it was modulating very rapidly.  The only way I can describe it was while I was hearing the sound, it was like I was inside a subwoofer speaker but the sound definitely was coming from the sky.

I stopped an looked all around there was nothing close within 100 yards but the post office.  The sound pressure was very high and I've never heard anything like it in my life.  I felt it in my body as much as I heard it.

My brother insists I was hoaxed but I'm an engineer and for the life of me I cannot figure out how that could have been possible based on the shear energy of the sound and how far way I was from anything that could have made it.  It was clearly coming from directly overhead but I saw nothing.

The only thing I can figure is that it's caused by some weird atmospheric phenomenon or possibly some interaction of the atmosphere and a solar wind or flare.  .
