Giving your CEO another reason to outsource you to India...

Having been in ATL over the long weekend for college football, I can attest to the fact there were a boatload of nerds wandering the streets in some crazy cosplay outfits... I think they S&M Harley Quinn took the cake.

It's satire...

You know, you would think satire would be funny.

/that is a satire site, right?

I went -- never again -- never, ever, ever, ever again.

The crowds of sweaty nerdom. Lines to get on a freakin' escalator. The rain came Sunday afternoon and drove everyone inside. LAME LAME LAME LAME costume contests (seriously, the Star Wars costume contest had a mere 10 entries, and only 1 of them was even worth a mention - Darth Waiter - that was pretty funny). Merch mart split into two floors of crowded HELL.

I was told the night time was the better time - after all the families are gone and the hardcores who were sleeping off Saturday night's festivities made it out of their hotel rooms, but I couldn't stand to be in another crowd any longer

It better be. Any business that would let its whole team leave for a con is not run very well. and being on call and expected to do work remotely is a thing no a days.

Oh God - the smell of all those wet nerds, once they all crowded inside and started to steam off.................

Futurama last week used this particularly florid description of Zoidberg's odor: "Like Comic-Con in a submarine."

Reminds me of Disclave '79; I wanted to hit the film program with some friends.  We couldn't, because *all* the projectionists were out seeing 'Alien'.

/so we got together with a few other friends, and they introduced us to this funny new game called 'Dungeons and Dragons'...

I'd just like to say that the mass preoccupation of "Nerds" away from their jobs wouldn't actually affect your tech support solutions. However, if a huge congregation of "Geeks" were too preoccupied to do their jobs, your tech support would certainly suffer!

Of course I realize that a con is a place where you can attract a lot of BOTH "Nerds" and "Geeks" so it'd still fit the bill but lets not confuse "Nerds" with "Geeks" and so on!

I went once.  It was interesting but I went to game and some of my events were cancelled.

CSB:  A hungover rep offered to play me in the Battlestar Galactica card game.  Not five minutes in, he ralphed.  Awkward.

Even if it weren't satire, DragonCon, PAX Prime, and WorldCon were all held the same weekend.  Nerds... Nerds everywhere!

I work for the most non-nerd/geek IT department ever. I'm the youngest at 28, next youngest is 47. They wouldn't even know wth Dragon Con is. My guess is they would complain about the whipper snappers in cosplay.

Also our IT deparment is 60% female. Sorry guys, that is not as hot as it sounds.

\Only one obese blimp woman though
\\All the rest are 50+ though

Cons can be fun, but yeah you have to prepare yourself for the crowds.  On the plus side, throw on a basic polo shirt and you're the best looking person in the room.

The article is wrong. Pax Prime is where the techie geeks go. It's the video game and tech con. Dragon Con is a cosplay focused con.

I'm 49. I went to DragonCon this past weekend. I liked it. I will go back again.

I went to the Atlanta Fantasy Fair back in 1982. I had fun then, as well.

My penchant for liking this event... does it hurt my Fark cred?

2013-09-03 03:40:05 PM
Warning, this is a csb.

I went this past weekend for the first time. They had panels on science as well as science fiction. Ph.Ds from NASA and JPL as the tech rep from the ACLU talking about NSA and cell phone tracking. The only Panel lines I had to wait in were ones for star trek, and those only took about 10 minutes. I also went to an all nigh MST3K where Joel sent in recorded intro's to his 5 favorite episodes.

Long story short, I loved it.

We only ended up watching 4 of the 5 because we did a lot of stuff in between movies. We skipped the 3rd movie and I actually forgot what it was.

#5 Hands of Fate (He said he had his top 4 but couldn't decide what the 5th one should be. After some thought he decided on this one because the fans loved it so much.
#4 The Final Sacrifice
#3
#2 Werewolf
#1 Mitchel (He said this is his favorite for many reasons. It is his last episode. The movie is horrible. The riffs are good)

Thanks for that.  Other than Mitchell and Hands of Fate I'm sort of surprised.  I thought maybe he would have said the usual suspects like Space Muitiny, Overdrawn at the Memory Bank or one of the Japanese monster flicks.

I've seen 90% of the episodes... but happened to miss Werewolf and Final Sacrifice.  I'll have to check it out...
