It's important to know these guys are contractors, not employees, and if they are not insured properly, the Dish people don't owe you a dime.
Ask for their policy number and verify it's worthiness, like all contractors.

I'm about to say fark DirecTV.
Between months of support emails trying to get a replacement receiver went nowhere, we had to finally threaten to cancel service before we were able to get a new one.  A week after we decided to downgrade to a lower package, saving $10, our rates were increased by...$10.

Added to the fact that signal cuts out if there's a stiff breeze, the dog barks loudly, or a bird flies by, and we're paying for way more crap than we need, I'm very willing ti tell them to pound sand.

FTA  A Clermont County family's holiday weekend came to an abrupt end when their house burst into flames while a cable technician was installing Direct TV Monday afternoon.

Would he technically be a cable technician?  Wouldn't he really be a Dish technician?  Though he was running a cable.  Really need to know for the upcoming lawsuit

Subcontracting work doesn't release the main company of all responsibility.  The customer has a contract with Direct TV and they are responsible for any work done in their behalf.  The contractor sent should have insurance and be held accountable, but if he doesn't and skip town Direct TV are still on the hook.  Subcontracting does reduces liability for Direct TV, but doesn't take it away altogether.  If Direct TV sends out a not insured or bonded contractor then that is negligent on their part.

The Buttles are not amused.

/should have gone with a rogue cable installer
//less paperwork

I just ordered DirecTV to be installed next Saturday and I'm cancelling DISH - FREE NFL Sunday ticket! (for a year) - $34.99 per month for the first year.  DISH is $89 per month currently so at least this will be cheap for a while and I can watch any game on Sunday I want.....

/hope the tech doesn't burn my house down
//should be pretty easy install since I already have dish up there and the cables are already ran thru the house

But they probably will charge the family for the now-fried equipment that the technician left in the house when he bolted.

"Um, do you have a fire extinguisher?"

No homeowner likes to hear that question.

Wrong. You cannot use uninsured contractors in order to absolve yourself of obligations to a homeowner. The homeowner DOES NOT HAVE A CONTRACT WITH THE INSTALLATION TECHNICIAN. The homeowner has a contract with DirecTV. Thus, the homeowner's insurance company is within its rights to go after DirecTV for full compensation plus costs, if it comes to that. Then, DirecTV can go after the contractor for compensation. If the insurance company hangs the homeowner out to dry, then the homeowner needs a good attorney who will go after DirecTV for compensation plus costs. Then DirecTV can go after the contractor.
