If we try and start some kind of movement to convince people not to see this it will just make them want to see it more. What can we hope to do?

Ignore it and hope it goes away, or hope our girlfriends will go see this and come home all kinds of randy.

Why do women love books so much where the female protagonist is awkward and insecure and stuck in an abusive relationship?

Explain that pornography is cheap (as in free) and plentiful on the internet. You don't have to wrap a bad story around attractive people having sex.

Popular does not equal good.

If the movie does well it will promote even more horrible entertainment and bad roles for females.

Well, a lot of women seem to think this is a good story, I guess you should inform them as to how poor their taste in entertainment is, as you obviously know so much better than they do.

I'm just glad Cillian Murphy didn't agree to be apart of garbage. And I'm curious to know how they're gonna make a decent plot out of these books, but I'll find out once it hits the internet illegally.

You forgot to tell me I had to be at the gym in 26 minutes.

Yes, I have an opinion. People can have an opinion. Trying to paint me as someone who is looking down on others in an attempt to take away from my original point is a sad attempt at an attack.

Since you missed the point I will tell it again.

This book is a bad book because it gives people a bad representation of both a BDSM relationship and females in general.

This books is a bad book because the writing is bad. I am not saying I am a great, good, or decent writer. I am a good enough reader to notice bad pacing, bad characters, and poor choice in words. This second point is not as important as the first and could easily be looked over if the first point wasn't so bad.

Instead of starting Operation "Stop Liking What I Don't Like," how about we just ignore it and leave it alone?

Worst possible scenario, your girl goes and sees it with her friends while you're at the bar and everyone has an enjoyable Saturday.

I like your response a lot better. I was simply hoping people would have better taste. It just makes me sad. But I am not the type to try and control what people find entertaining.

It's also another example of a book that glorifies abusive relationships, with hints of the projection main character having an eating disorder, not to mention the truly massive amount of woman-shaming going on from said character.

This is probably going to sound a bit hyperbolic/extreme - and I'm probably reaching - but I wonder if there's some sort of link between these books and domestic violence figures...

It's one thing when it's a classic, or at least a cult classic. This is nothing more than flavor of the monthism. And the book's not even the biggest thing at this point. At least with Harry Potter, they had a compelling story to work with. 50 Shades is just stupid mom porn, written by an idiot, for idiots. If these people are so desperate to watch BDSM porn, they can save themselves the humiliation of being scene going to this in the theater, and log onto kink.com. The sex will be better, and more plentiful.

And the girls are way bigger freaks than anything Hollywood can come up with. How many Hollywood starlets are willing to take it in the ass while handcuffed on a public bus?
