Just now a couple of Republican senators, including John McCain, are willing to go to bat for striking Syria. Obama has a trip scheduled to Russia in the next week or so.

Buckle in.

So you're saying that this kid is going to blame the US for not getting involved, then declare jihad and refuse to die until the US collapses and/or becomes a Muslim state?

I'm finding one of the prerequisites of Muslim extremism -- and organized religion in general -- is to possess a weak, malleable mind so it can be easily used by the owner/operators (parunts, mullahs, etc.)

Nobody knows, which is why Fark is so magical. It is theorized that the true Farker is dangerously schizophrenic, and half his personalities are drunk squirrels.

NOW can we call it a wash and leave this Syria mess the fark alone?

Using child soldiers is as much of an international law violation as chemical weapons use.  BOTH sides are in serious violation of international law.

And it's not our job to go in and fix them.

It's a story that has been played from Central America to southeast Asia to the middle east. All our puppets and diplomacy end up creating fanatical hate for America and Americans. We should get out, remake the military into a defense force, ala Japan, and use the money saved to build the infrastructure, here at home, that will make the U.S. a leader into the next century.

/end rant

At this point just letting them kill each other seems to be the best option. Team America was not a documentary!

Few things are more terrifying than to take someone too young to truly know the difference between right and wrong, hand them a weapon and convince them that murdering a perceived enemy is normal.  That child's innocence has been pissed away and he will most likely be dead within a year.  That guy from Predator has pulled that shiat in Uganda for years and has been vilified by the world.  This kid? A f*ckin' hero to millions of Syrians.  Absolutely terrifying.

One part religion, two parts old men convincing the young die to achieve their goals because the young haven't lived long enough to learn to value and jealously guard their lives like the old men.

It's pretty horrible all around.

I have to wonder though, if I was 11 years old, my country embroiled in civil war and my home town in ruins, friends and relatives killed by the other side, I might be inclined to pick up a rifle too.  I'd like to think my father would've had something to say about that, namely "go home" or "go sit in the refugee camp" ...

But would I really be better off starving in a refugee camp, shiatting amoebic dysentery?

Honestly I'm not really sure if there's a realistic third option, which leads me back to my first thought:  horrible all around.

According to a Human Rights Watch report, some opposition groups fighting in Syria "are using children for combat and other military purposes," reports vice.com.
"Even when children volunteer to fight, commanders have a responsibility to protect them by turning them away," said children's researcher, Priyanka Motaparthy, in the report.
"Children are easily influenced by older relatives and friends, but their participation in armed hostilities places them in grave danger of being killed, permanently disabled, or severely traumatized."

This doesn't seem like it wouldn't be a very persuasive argument to anyone who hasn't already figured out that employing child soldiers may not be an entirely moral course of action.

Child Soldiers are entirely logical, they're small, and therefore; harder to aim at and hit. Downshot is they can't carry much in the way of loot and food.
