Something like that happened to me in a trendy Boston shop on Newbury st when I was much younger fat girl but starting to earn a lot of disposable income. I was looking for a birthday gift for a funky size 2 friend who liked bright but funky ensembles. We had tried to out-do one another in cool birthday gifts.

A Boy George lookalike had to tell me loudly as i entered the store that there was "nothing in the store in YOUR size" at which point I pulled out a thousand in cash, and waved bye bye to him with it as I walked out.

I moved to a store a few doors down and told the proprietor about the comment. She said she knew the guy in question and he was an insufferable prick. I then dropped cash on a size 2 leather custom dragon bustier for my girlie and she wore it out the next weekend. Much fun was had by all.

She's actually better off for it.  Rue 21's got really, really shiatty clothes.

\same can be said for most stores aimed at teens and college kids

Walked into a "Tip Top Tailors" here in Toronto a few years back; the clerk took one look at me and said, "No, we have nothing that would fit you."

I took it positively - I didn't have to waste any of my time looking around, and he said it honestly not rudely.Thankfully nowadays, I can shop there again.

Mall people.

The thought of a nasty lawsuit now *ahem* weighs heavily on the company....

I can almost see someone working at Gucci on Rodeo Drive breaking out attitude on shoppers, but when you're pushing register buttons at Rue 21 in an Oregon mall shouldn't your biggest problem be that the drizzle might make it harder to despondently immolate yourself?

I don't get the obese... I mean... you're killing yourself slowly... wtf do you care what you're wearing when you do it. It is as baffling to me as people who put on a suit and tie or a military uniform prior to committing suicide.... you're gonna be dead, that's what people are talking about... nobody is gonna be discussing your fashion sensibilities.

No amount of clothes is going to cover up the fact that you don't care enough about yourself to take care of your body... if you don't care about you, it's pretty farking unreasonable to expect other people to care about you.

About 2.8 million people die from obesity every year. The normal weight people are hiding the cure from them and the obese are dying as a result.

Until we bomb the Cheetos and Hostess factories.   That, coupled with the simultaneous takedown of the Lifetime Network, H2 and the Food Channel, and MMORPG server farms will cause the fatties to run into the sunshine waving white flags made from their huge underpants.

I live in NYC, I've seen fatties try to walk up stairs on subway platforms.  Its as unbelievable as the zombie apocalypse, you could just slowly walk away from them.

Although perhaps their trans fat saturated flab rolls will provide defensive capabilities against firearms.

As long as they don't sue the company, I am ok with them complaining about this. Don't get me wrong, the store has every right to be pricks, but bad publicity is the best route to go with this.

Most these clothing shops don't even have clothes for fat people. Its one thing to browse, but to get panties in a knot when you find out they don't have a size 12 or larger is funny.

/I wear size 38 and happy with that, however its on the borderline of fat ass.

Sure they do. But does Rue 21 sell clothes for, um, larger than average people? Serious question, I'm not saying you should be kicked out of the store if they don't sell clothes your size.

2013-09-02 12:42:20 PM
I believe this is fairly common. Many years ago I knew the manager of a Benetton store who would regularly discourage "larger" people shopping there. He claimed it was orders from his district manager because they did not want the brand to be associated with people who did not fit the "Benetton look".

My guess is she was in the store at some previous point and managed to tear a bunch of their cheap-ass clothing by trying it on.

It all depends on their motivation. For example: you don't want to get between a herd of them and a freshly refilled gravy trough at the Golden Corral.

Heh, nice troll there, Ill give you 3/10.

A good friend of mine has Cushings syndrome, which causes a massive overproduction of Cortisol in the body, from a tumor she had on her Pituitary gland in her brain. She was slim and pretty and active and then the tumor developed, and she gained about 250 lbs in a little under a year. She got a LOT of shiat from people. Store clerks, some of her friends, assholes in general that she'd encounter day to day. She'd get sarcastic comments in restaurants.

She had to buy a large SUV just to have a car with enough room behind the steering wheel to be able to drive comfortably. She stayed on the job, she worked pretty much every day and was able to feed four kids pretty much by herself as her ex-husband was a lowlife who painted cars for a living when he could keep a job.

People are not nice to folks with health issues.

I always figured that if you are prejudiced against a group of people, one of those people will eventually fark your daughter.  It's a humorous image to imagine a black dude banging a klan member's daughter, but not so much when it's your daughter supporting some great big fat fark's stomach on top of her head while sucking down all the posts you made on Fark shiatting on fatties.

Ever had a fattie try to sit next to you on an airplane and spill over in your seat?  Ever been in a rush and you can't get up the subway train as they are too fat to get around and too out of shape to get up a few stairs in under 3 minutes?  Ever pay your health insurance premiums that are much higher than they should be in no small part because the rest of us have to subsidize their shiatty habits?

If you want to live to excess and kill yourself, fine, but don't inconvenience other people.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if the event just happened in her mind as in "the way the clerk is looking at me she is telling me I don't belong here and I am highly self-conscious and schizoid" and ends up being a non-provable discrimination bullshiat lawsuit over imaginary happenings.

You sound like you missed your morning breakfast sandwich(es) from McDonalds. Is your blood sugar low? Diabetes does screw with your insulin levels, maybe you should go check them.

A guy at my office kept saying that too. I asked him to keep track of his eating for a week and it turns out he was only eating 2300 calories a day on average. He couldn't figure out how I would eat 6000 a day when swimming as he really thought he was "eating a ton".

I'm willing to bet you eat far less than you think you do if you keep track.

CSB, but the vast majority of fatties in this country do not have medical issues as an excuse.   You want to be mad about the attitude she gets for being fat, blame the vast herds of fast food soda guzzeling manatees that make everyone assume she is too.

Well, it's Labor Day, but he does have school tomorrow. Probably middle school.

It would be ironic if he gained weight as he got older, like many of us do. He could stand in front of a mirror and give his pathetic little speech to himself every morning.

Most people who are overweight simply lack self control. As a smoker, same lack of self control applies to me. But at least I don't whine about all the cruel people making me smoke outside or whatever.

I shouldn't have to pay for cigarette smokers to have their health problems treated under this logic. And following the same logic, fat people have more of a right to that health care since nobody can tell by looking at them why they are overweight or obese.
