I'm none too happy about the fade in/out thing with the text. Just show me the goddamned caption and leave the fancy HTML tricks at home.

NoScript is your deslidifying friend.  Or maybe AdBlock did it.  I've only got 3 Firefox extensions (Ghostery as well).

For me, that page was thumbnail pictures with text to the right of each.

I guess what I meant was that I am confused as to why such a photo would even exist. The whole thing looks strange, the forced perspective(I actually thought the mushroom was shopped to be larger, but forced perspective seems likely) doesn't do much for te image and multi focus? I didn't even know that was a thing until now. I'm thinking it shouldn't be a thing though.

Yeah, the depth of field is really weird in there. Like there are two planes of focus. Double exposure, maybe? One shot with the mushrooms focused and one shot with the background focused, both with wide open apertures, so the trees in between are blurred in both, and then photoshop to layer them together?

I'm totally guessing, but it's an interesting idea. I might try something like that next time I take my camera out. :)

Or it could just be a very common idea that I've never heard of or bothered with because I don't usually do more than the basics of trying to get a single good shot (from many, mind you) without having to resort to darkroom or photoshop trickery. ^^;;

Don't, that turtle would kill and eat you if it had the chance.

I stand corrected:

"'Magic mushrooms' by Agorastos Papatsanis: The taller of these two parasol mushrooms is just 30 centimetres. That is tall for a parasol, but their prominence against the tree trunks behind is a slight optical illusion, the result of a double exposure, in-camera. "

There was recently a NatGeo special on them, so yeah.

I thought the bear/salmon one was good but something I'd seen before a million times.  Then if you look closely you can see the salmon eggs swirling out of the fish in a perfect arc.  That brings it up to a win.  The toad-egg pic is my favorite.

In a tournament of who the meanest asshole alive is, apparently the croc came out ahead. Next qualifying heat: Canadian Geese vs. Alligator Snapping Turtle.

Here's my entry from yesterday :)

i1099.photobucket.com

Headed up to RMNP to try some of the techniques discussed in the thread, but forgot the piece that connects my cam to my tripod.  Instead I had to sneak up on this bull off of Trailridge rd. and try to snap some pics.  Worried about the rangers coming before I could get any closer.
