Suspended WITHOUT pay. He should have shot someone...

I think the other driver can get off easily, because there is no WAY a 91 Geo Metro is still capable of running.

/Geo Metro drivers correct me below.
//I mean it's not like they are Yugos

You'd be surprised.  I knew someone that would throw a rebuilt engine in hers every 3 years or so.  They were apparently rather cheap and easy to swap out.

Similar story in Lowell, Mass., but the drunk cop died because he was on a Harley going 80 mph on a city street when a drunk non-cop pulled out from a side street. The non-cop was convicted of a misdemeanor and is serving six months in jail. Prosecutor wanted a felony conviction and 10 years, but the jury wasn't convinced.

That's right... shoot them, throw them over the bridge, make up whatever story you want... it's the Louisiana way.

/ I will accept a contribution to Opelousas charity ball... but you better drive this dirty Datsun into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Geo Metro deserved it, but the cop should still go to jail

2013-09-01 11:34:25 PM
The cop has no excuse but you have to be drunk to drive a Geo Metro.

2013-09-01 11:35:38 PM
I may be going into shock here.  A NO cop actually 'arrested' and suspended WITHOUT PAY for DWI...and he managed to even hit someone else who was also DWI and get 'them' off the road, too.

This is actually how it's supposed to work and it actually happened.  In Louisiana.  New Orleans, Louisiana.  Holy crap.

Glad to see we have officers using their brains.

I wonder if Frank Hyde is pissed about the arrest since he didn't cause the accident.  I had a coworker who still argued about his one DWI that he shouldn't have been arrested because the other drunk caused the accident.  I couldn't get him to realize that being the victim of an accident doesn't give you a DWI pass.

Also, had a coworker who was about to face jail time for slamming into a car killing the driver while he was speeding, under age drunk and driving on a suspended license.  I don't know how his case went because I think he went fugitive, but he argued he shouldn't be charged because she pulled out in front of him.  Never mind, by his own admission, he was going 90 mph on a two lane road.

I loved the shiat out of my 3cyl Geo Metro. That car was awesome. With a fuel efficiency that stacks up to modern fuel saver hatchbacks. I always wanted one of the convertibles.

I still say Mr. Hyde should be given a pass and sent on his way unless he was super-stinkin', no-way-he's-gettin'-home-without-hittin'-something drunk. Where he was in relation to his destination should also be taken into account.

I recognize that would not exactly be a fair outcome under the law, but it's fair under reality, since he wasn't the one to bring to police's attention that he was drunk.

The "suspended without pay" part made my head spin. Too bad Portland, OR or Seattle will never do this with their police officers who get caught committing similar crimes...

Was thinking the same thing.

"No, Mr. So-&-so, you were mistaken when you said you driving in a straight line when the other car hit you, weren't you?"

Actually if this was past 1am in certain areas guarantees a lot of drunk drivers on the road.

Rule number one for police officers: NEVAR embarrass the department. Violate that rule and the first time you fark up enough to get caught they'll pretend they don't know you.

My brother got arrested for a DUI when he got in an accident with an off duty cop.  Except my brother hadn't been drinking.  The cop somehow disappeared when it came time to do the sobriety tests.  He fought it and it took a couple of years to finally get it off his record.  An intelligent judge finally threw the case out because of "too much funny shiat" in how the case was handled at the scene and afterwards.  Unfortunately for my brother, it didn't fix his car nor did it pay back the higher insurance rates he was forced to pay while the case was pending.  He decided not to pursue suing because he was tired of it and the cost was too high for the expected payout.

Of  course nothing happened to the cop from the accident (who had been drinking) or to the cops who framed my brother.

A lack of accountability in groups with authority inevitably leads to abuse.  Did you try the ACLU?

Only 37 complaints in 3 years?

That's not even fulfilling the standard quota for a NOLA cop.  No wonder he's got troubles.

Well, prosecutors have to fellate the police union if they want to be re-elected. Sad, but true.

No lie. "arrested" and "NOPD" don't go together in a sane world. Usually, NOPD gets away with just about anything they want. The local prosecutors are terrified of the police unions.

/csb: have been almost killed by stupid shiat NOPD does, then laughs about. Protip: if you see NOPD during Mardi Gras, run. Had NOPD charge a horse at a shoulder-to-shoulder crowded alleyway for the lulz, started a stampede that picked my big butt up and carried me about 10 yards, some drunk post-teen got knocked down and was getting trampled, got her by an arm and dragged her to the wall. The NOPD horse cops were high-fiving it, three or four people were injured. Yay, NOPD. Won't even mention their behavior during Katrina, the ones that didn't desert were stealing everything they could get their hands on or were shooting civilians. Cowards or thieves, all of them.

Just noticed that the LA State Police were the investigating officers. Truth be told, they do not play. It's by the book for everyone, but an LEO off duty usually gets held to a higher standard when it comes to stuff like this.
