The term addiction is now officially meaningless.

But how do you do the "making amends" step with all of your Facebook friends?

I'd say I was addicted to Fark, but that's only because I spend a lot of my spare time on here. There is a lot of really good user content generated in these comments sections and the stories are filtered so that the most important stuff is presented.

I doubt I could get "addicted" to a crap site like Reddit. Too much garbage in the comments and the stories are just a constant onslaught of mundane and stupid shiat that isn't filtered at all. The UI on that site sucks too.

So I embrace my addiction here. What do I gain? I am up to date on the news. I have plenty of interesting and smart and informative comments to fill in the gaps that the news itself leaves out. And I get to see some of the smartest people on the internet discussing important topics of the day. What do I lose? A few minutes here. A few minutes there.

In all, I'd say this Fark 'addiction' is an overall good. Like a homosexual, I'm happy being what I am and don't take kindly to anyone trying to 'cure' me of my perversion.

2013-09-01 11:24:00 PM
But they'll let me post to Fark, right?  'Cause that's not really, really internetting.

But for those with the addiction, they can face withdrawals similar to those seen in people addicted to marijuana. These patients can face depression, irritability and in some cases violence, Laroche said.

seriously?

I mean I don't doubt people being unable to upload pictures of their lunch might get violent, not the ex pot smokers.

In my late teens I spent all of my waking hours online. I won't go into details, but as I'm an alcoholic, I can see the same patterns in my compulsive beviours and believe internet addiction to be a very possible and disruptive (and destructive) possibility.

I'm curious as to how this plays out. I can see the same pattern of escapism and validation that other addictions can bring... And also the possible or probable downfall.

I often wonder what would happen if I had to go without internet for a long period of time.

One thing is for certain, I'd be looking for the nearby porn shop - tossed out all my naughty videos and magazines in the late 90's.

Anybody that needs to spend $14,000 to not be online for 3 days needs to spend more to not spend on shiat like that.

I'm addicted to the Internet only inasmuch as it's a necessary part of my tranny porn addiction.

There's just something about 20,000 videos of people with huge cocks and huge tits getting sucked off my other people with giant cocks and tits.

I'd check myself in if they have broadband.

Resident Muslim: Quick! Someone describe what an Internet Intervention would look like!

I imagine it would involve a lot of Facebook posts and status updates and +likes urging so and so to get help with their addiction and how everyone is there for them(or would be if they could unplug long enough to actually go over to so and so's house). Eventually their concern trolling would become so obnoxious the person would block/defriend them and they'd post updates about how ungrateful this person is because they were only trying to help.

2013-09-02 01:09:51 AM
They just have to cut off my access to lube and slobber and I'd be done with the internets.

I think they need to re-classify it from internet addition to computer/game addiction.  I mean sure, there are people who are addicted to online porn and websites.  But what about people who are addicted to non-online computer and game system games?

Can anybody say "gee, just one more turn in Civ, one more shot at this level in Bioshock, one more quest in Skyrim?

I think the internet is getting a bum rap with some of this.

Internet addiction is better than this poor fellow.
He went out into the light and BAM! Tipped over while foraging for fructose.
Should of ordered fructose online and saved his soul from the evils of outside.

Of for the love of...you cannot be addicted to the internet.  The internet is a medium through which you access things, some of which you may be addicted to.  Saying someone is addicted to the internet is like saying that a person is addicted to the syringe rather than the drug in it.  If you can't even understand what it is the person is actually addicted to, how can you even be sure it's something that needs to be fixed?  The author yoyos back and forth between calling it "internet addiction" and describing specific applications and activities the people are addicted to so much I can't believe he didn't realize what an idiot he's making himself sound like.
