I live in Baltimore... This isn't a new theory.

Yeah, this conspiracy theory, such as it is, was going around the bar like 5 minutes after the lights went out that night

I love Ray - as a football player. I have met him in person a few times. He seems nice. However, he is not the most educated man in the world, and comes off sounding like a moron here. Regardless of the fact that everyone in Baltimore thought the same thing. Sometimes you just need to keep your mouth closed, Ray.

Knowing when not to keep his mouth closed helped him beat a murder rap though.

How about the constant late hits and punches thrown or the roughing the passer fouls by the Ravens all game, all of which weren't called?  What about the holding on the second half opening kickoff TD return?  How about Jimmy Smith's hold on Crabtree in the end zone?

Baltimore wants to talk about conspiracy theories?  Gotta throw them in.

Definitely a relevant argument. Because if the game was going to be fixed in anyone's favor, it would be for the historic, much loved, perennially-favored Baltimore Ravens.

Yup. Totally.

The power company, the stadium, all the hosts, went dark for over half an HOUR during the biggest live television of the YEAR on the entire bloody planet...just so YOU would lose a football game.

The ego of these farkers never ceases to amaze me.

I guess Ray figures there were no blackouts in the previous blowout Superdome SBs because no one cared about the '85 Patriots or '89 Broncos like they did the '12 Niners.

I think that people are missing the important point about this quote: that it's not gibberish.  Ray Lewis is wrong nearly all the time; only rarely is he coherent while being wrong.

The power going out was an embarrassment and a black eye to both the city of New Orleans and the NFL.  I can't imagine why they'd want to do that.

well to be fair to the conspiracy crowd, nobody expected the '85 Patsies or '89 Donkos to have a chance in hell of winning

maybe vegas panicked

I've got Window 7, made by a zillion-dollar company, and sometimes it goes out. Even the most well built and maintained equipment can fail.

True.  No telling how many blackouts they would've needed to get back in the game against the Bears and Montana's Niners respectively.

2013-09-01 06:30:15 PM
From TFA " The 49ers came back from 28-6 down to close within two points in the fourth quarter, but the Ravens held on for a 34-31 win that likely kept the timing of the blackout from becoming fodder for a lot more discussion than it ultimately wound up becoming in the aftermath of the game. "

Yeah if the 49ers had one i would have bought talk in reynold's wrap.

There was also a blackout during a 2011 MNF game between Pittsburgh and the Niners. Conspiracies should be directed to Jim Harbaugh.

No, if there was a conspiracy, then the Ravens would have lost against Denver.

Ray Lewis has just cemented his place in Ravens' history.  Even when they're winning championships they aren't happy unless they think someone is out to get them.  Unfortunately, Bourbon Bob, Jack Kent Cooke and Paul Tagliabue are no longer in the picture, so they're inventing a new generation of villains.

Those no calls went both way. Torrey Smith was practically mugged at knife point on the way to what would have been a TD catch by one of the 49er's DBs in the first half. That's the way the game was calls don both sides all night.

It isn't just them. Every championship team ever has said something along the lines of "Nobody thought we could do it! We proved them wrong!" No, you're the mid-dynasty Patriots. Everyone and their mom expected you to win.

It isn't just sports, either. Hatebreed has a song on their new album that says "For years and even now they pray to watch me fall!" I love Hatebreed, but come on, man. Really? Who?

I see this all over the place. Someone's probably put a name on it, but my profession is software. I know very little of psychology.

No-calls that hurt your team? It's fixed! No-calls that help your team? They're just letting them play.

This why Lewis shouldn't bring his knife on the field. People might steal it and use it on his teammates.

This is true, however Baltimoreans exist at a different level of paranoia.

What I find most interesting is that both teams were affected equally.  Tell me how the Niners had an advantage, when they both suffered under the same conditions?   What would have been the *theory* if the Niners were beat even worse after the blackout ended?

Ray is a moron, like every conspiracy theorist.
