When will we stop the tyranny of nature? People should be allowed to walk free of the constant fear of natural forces!

They're not the kind of tourists who gives up just like that. Oh nooooooooooooooo!

I'm surprised they weren't taken out and shot after that.  The Chinese do that kind of think you know.

So if 75 Chinese people got washed away to their deaths that means there's two apartments now available for rent in that town, right?

Weep not, world, they'll make more.

Actually.....

If 30 of the people came from 10 familes, ie. 3 people each.  And, if those families were middle class or higher, that would be at least 30 apartments.  The other 45 come from 20 families or so.  They rent from other people.  Depending on age, job, etc, call it another 10 apartments vacant, with another 10 having a spare bedroom open up.

So, 40 apartments+

/Chinese often own more than one home.  My wife's mom and dad have 4, and they are lower on the economic scale.

A) not a tidal wave
B) a regular occurence and the reason tourists are there

Newsflash: U.S. park officials, in an effort to avoid litigation, put fences up so that even the 100-year tidal bore couldn't give you a splinter. Other countries adopt less stringent standards. They clearly need more litigation to fix this.

The Chinese 'Under the Dome' advert with stuff being crushed while smashing against the dome was either uncomfortably inappropriate, or perfect. I'm not sure which.

TFA is written as though it was a terrifying event for all.

The video, however, shows a lot of people enjoying the hell out of themselves. I especially love how many people are smiling and looking at the shots they got on their cameras right after the wave drenched them all.

Seriously, though. Mother nature is a biatch. That wave had some serious power.

OK, lets clear this up right now.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_bore

Brief clarifications:

Tidal bores are not tsunamis.

Tidal bores are extremely common, and can vary from extremely weak to violent and deadly.

static.guim.co.uk
Due to their relatively stable nature compared to regular waves some tidal bores are ideal for surfing.  (This guy's thrashing the gnar on the Amazon).
