Yeah, but Family Dollar is where the people who think Dollar Palace is too high falutin' go.

Seriously, they are total shiatholes.

It's really just Peter Pettigrew.

You'd think they would have plenty of $0.99 mouse traps to set out.

My wife and I call it Family Squalor. Every one of their stores that I've set foot in (usually because it is what is closest when I needed some random non-food item) has been pretty nasty. No way I'd ever consider buying food there.

well, when everything cost a dollar, you can't expect to hire anyone to clear the rats.  you can only squeeze so much out of businesses and their employees.

When I was a kid in the 80s, it seemed like every department store had a live pet section. Not cats or dogs, but parakeet, fish, gerbils, all that jazz. Looking back, that must have sucked from a logistics standpoint.

You haven't been in a Family Dollar store recently have you? Very few of their products only cost a dollar anymore, in fact most of what they sell now are brand name products at prices comparable to what you would get at Walmart or your local grocery store.

Yeah, this. And more specifically, Prospect Ave in KC. Not the nicest area of town by a long shot.

I've been to a couple of dollar stores. It amazes me anyone farking goes there.  You can beat their prices and quality at real stores.  Dollar stores are like a scam of semi-convenience for the idiots who do the rest of their shopping at gas stations.

These places make sam's club look posh.

Sams Club kinda is.  At least the one by me seems to be.  They have a lot of fancy things around the meat areas...
Dollar store is good for bday balloons and junk like that.

Yeah, I was pretty sure that most of those "Dollar" stores were places where everything was priced with a nice round dollar amount, $1, $2, etc versus a place where all of their products cost $1.

Granted, there is a kind of decent dollar store not too far from me that lives up to its name...Everything's $1.  While I'm sure the place is packed with cheap crap made in China and not designed to last, I've been surprised at the number of things I've bought that have held up well.  They even sell a number of items made in the U.S.A., shocking, I know.

There is a dollar general across the road from my apartment. i go there a lot for odds and ends. The other day I needed some mountain dew to mix with my scotch. No way I am driving to wal mart just for a 2 liter.
