Hoped he played a lottery number that night.

Think the guy in the white car in front of the one taping is the lucky one

/But not as lucky as his insurance company.

I'm glad I don't have to wash his underwear.

2013-08-31 08:45:56 PM
That's a big boulder.

2013-08-31 08:46:41 PM
Wow, that WAS just like a comical cartoon boulder.

2013-08-31 08:47:18 PM
Any estimates on the weight of that boulder?  Moving it off the road is going to be a chore.

2013-08-31 08:51:51 PM
Seeing a massive slab of rock like that in motion is awe inspiring.  I would have totally been screaming like a little girl in the white car.

2013-08-31 08:53:51 PM
Good thing he threw the four-ways on, otherwise the cars behind might not have known that there was trouble ahead.

2013-08-31 08:54:59 PM
His fey little dance as he gets out to pull his passenger out is pretty funny.

I would STILL be screaming, holy crap. Really amazing. And if I had seen it in an action movie, I would have been all, 'OMG how fake that looks'.

The biggest difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense.

Watch the beginning of the video, you can see the boulder breaking off the top of the mountain.

2013-08-31 09:01:56 PM
If you look at the you-tube version, and look at the top of the mountain, you can see the top of the mountain start to disintegrate, then a few seconds later it hits the road.

Assuming it's limestone and 8 times larger than the nearby compact white car, it weighs roughly 310 tons (~290,000 kilograms).

I enhanced the YouTube video and it clearly shows a UFO lasering off that chunk of rock, causing the entire event....

any reason not to link to the video ?

That was totally a woman driver.  See how they just sat there and put their hazards on instead of driving forward a few feet or running on foot?  Totally a clueless woman.

2013-08-31 09:56:09 PM
I saw the original video on YouTube, it starts about 15-20 seconds earlier than this GIF. In that video, you could see the mountaintop boulder give way, then time how long it took to make it's appearance.

All involved were very lucky.

Yeah, asshole, the front of his car was crushed. As in no-move anymore. If you had a newer car, you'd know that emergency braking would automatically engage the hazards.

Here's the video:

You can see the boulder give way at 3 seconds. Look at the mountaintop in the far distance.

Must have been some decent-sized rocks mixed in with the dirt.  I mean, other than the big piece of mountain in the road.

That also explains

Go Fornicate Without a Partner: See how they just sat there and put their hazards on instead of driving forward a few feet

Wow. From the look of the photos, it seems the boulder was slightly ahead of the car. But still, I would have FREAKED OUT if I had been that driver.

By the way, am I the only one who actually scrolled down the page slightly to find the full  video?

I would've backed away faster than that.

Wile E. Coyote.

2013-08-31 10:29:53 PM
That fly debris helped push his car to the side to make room for the falling rock that just miraculously stopped right before it was going to pancake that guy. He should have been dead. The man upstairs is still giving that guy time.

When we finally land a manned mission to Mars I fully expect that their first priority will be to erect the Golden ArchesTM

First thhing I would have done - after shiatting my pants - would be to get out of my car and flip that boulder the bird with both hands.

That's exactly what Wyle E. Coyote would've done. Right before the boulder completed that final quarter turn, pinning him under.

Do you carry a stash of little placards with "HELP" written on them in your pockets by chance?

I'm surprised the road isn't more damaged. The road bed must be some pretty solid stuff.

Psh... I'm luckier than all those motherfarkers. I wasn't anywhere near a landslide in the first place.
