F*ck, my kids get a 50 cent piece for their teeth and I thought that was a lot of money. I only got a dime when I was in a kid in the early 80's

I've always given my kids two dollar bills ... one, because they're so unusual and because it's a plan on words - from the TWOoth Fairy!

Frankly, the tooth fairy creeped me out when I was a kid. WTF is she doing with all those kids' teeth? That is one farking Hannibal-Lecter-level disturbing thing to collect. Guillermo del Toro got it right.

Well, I'm surprised Pocket Ninja didn't give us a rant about how the tooth fairy doesn't exist and is evil like Santa Claus by making kids believe in imaginary beings.

But the photo does kind of confirm my own thesis that the tooth fairy is more about easing parent's anxiety about their kids growing up than it is about making the kids feel better.

This. I got a dime for my teeth until the molars came out and then I got a quarter (mid 90s at that time).

However, my son gets a dollar...but gets a gold coin dollar.

Because those things are awesome and look like pirate treasure.

And when you're six...that's more important than the actual amount of money.

We kept forgetting to do it with our youngest and I had to pull the magic trick the next morning to get the job done.

So yeah the kid got $5 on those occasions. Mostly it was 2.

I always got silver dollars.  It was cooler to get something to keep that you wouldn't want to spend as opposed to getting some petty cash that would be quickly blown on candy or something else.  Two dollar bills are also acceptable.

It's important to beat socialism into children at a young age, lest they think their situation in life is unique.
Hope they get that new car at 16 like the other kids.

Not sure if serious, but I'm sure many who believe this also complain about toy stores saying Happy Holidays demanding that the "Socialist" giving on December 25 be referred to by the name of their God.

I'm giving my kids monopoly money.  They never played monopoly.

FTA:  They say that $5 was enough without going overboard. They didn't want other families to think they were giving too much.

Reading this made me viscerally furious.

Tooth fairies have a totally gross job yet people complain about $4? A root canal used to cost like a a couple hundred bucks now its a thousand,, an extraction was like a hundred now it's 3. But I'm expected to put wings on and farking parade in some farking preteens room in a Farkin corset waving a farking wand around with all the risk involved in this day and age? For 4 Dollars?? What's happened to this country?

My parents bought me a cheaper version of this.  Don't have to even worry about waking the kid up.

Those are weird and interesting
Never thought about that before, that we have our adult teeth growing in our jaws like that
Makes perfect sense, just never thought about it and seen what it looks like
What happens wiith all that space after the adult teeth move up?

We used to get a Quarter,Early 70's.And on your birthday. If you turned say sixteen.
You would get 16 bucks. My sister made the mistake of becoming a born again Christian
at 17.Pop gave her a buck.

My kids get 75¢ .
But I frequently forget and it takes a few days. So they believe that the tooth fairy both takes a lot of vacations, can't travel as fast as Santa so if a lot of kids lost a tooth that night there's a backlog and she'll be by the next night, and that she doesn't always check her voicemail.

We got $5ish in the 80s.  A film canister full of quarters.  Put the tooth in at night, wake up to a surprise inside.

2013-08-31 11:50:14 PM
"A kid who got a quarter would wonder why their tooth was worth less than the kid who got $5," said Kit Yarrow, a consumer psychologist and professor at Golden Gate University.

That's when you tell them that the other kids are spoiled worthless pieces of shiat and to thank God they won't grow up the same as them.

I plan on taking money from my kid's piggy bank anytime they lose a tooth. That will help bring the average back down to a more reasonable level.

My oldest just lost her first tooth last week.

We put a box of .22lr ammo (50 rounds) under her pillow.  $8.99 from Cabelas.

She can finally fire her xmas present now that ammo is coming back into stock.

Too true! An improperly inflated tooth fairy not only hurts you tooth mileage; it also causes your teeth to wear faster.

It was one dollar when I was a kid and it was one dollar for my kids as well.

In my house I am pretty sure that the Tooth Fairy doesn't give a fat rat's ass about inflation.

My kid lost two teeth at once one time and it turned out I only had a twenty in my wallet that night.

At nine, she still professes to believe in the Tooth Fairy. She's a smart kid.
