It's about time she learned to conform and follow the rules to prepare her for her life as a corporate drone.

It IS an unnatural color, for her.

In Japan, they don't take no shiat. They have black hair dye in the office. You come into middle school with dyed hair, they haul you down to the teachers' room and fix it for you. You're in school to study, not to throw a fashion show.

I'm not saying everything about the Japanese school system is admirable, far from it, but their dress codes are simple and ironclad.

If they started doing that here, we'd have a lot less blonde female students.

Learning how to conform and respect authority is as important as developing individuality and learning to question authority, and there are times for both.

School during the K-12 years is about learning the academic fundamentals and how to function in polite society.  There was a dress code, she violated it, it was right of them to send her home.

Respecting authority when it's appropriate doesn't make you a drone, however constantly bucking it and raging against everything that comes along makes you narcissistic and unemployable.

It is an unnatural color. Whether a school's dress code should enforce a ban on hair color or not is another question.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that you should be a unique snowflake on your own time. You've got plenty of time after you get out of school to alter your external appearance to appear interesting.

Hey! We will have NONE of that here in the US!

oh bullshiat. their is no reason the school should even have this policy. respecting authority when it is appropriate is one thing, school administrators trying to control folks lives way outside the scope of their education is another.

It's not out of line for a school to want to present a certain imagine, and thus regulate the dress code.  You couldn't work at most companies with hair dyed an outlandish color, so there's no reason why a school couldn't choose to make the same restriction.

Now, we can try to split hairs on red being outlandish, but that wasn't a natural shade of red, and in the interest of being fair to the other students if they're going to tell them they can't dye their hair blue or purple, it was right of them to tell her she can't use that shade of red.

So, the expression of individuality is the problem, not the uptight people who concern themselves with other people's hair?

Exactly.  They found the look that middle-aged businessmen liked and they made it mandatory.

Surprised at the number of fascists in this thread.

I agree that the dress code should be enforced but if this violates the dress code then the dress code needs to be reformed. What exactly do these people think this girl's hair color is going to do to affect the other student's ability to learn?

This might just be the single best thing I've ever read on Fark.

When my at-the-time high-school-age daughter wanted to dye big pink streaks in her hair, I told her I didn't care. I wasn't the one who was going to have to walk around looking like that.

Mabry just found out today that she will be able to return to the school on Tuesday as the principal decided her red hair was no longer a distraction.

I guess "that principle is an uptight asshat" had become a greater distraction.

I dont care what color anyone dyes their hair, but I'm not buying this whole act.  She knew exactly what she was doing when she dyed it, and was probably hoping for this exact reaction.

Why would you assume she knew that was some sort of rule infraction? It's red hair. It's not a farking mohawk.

Oh my god this is such bullshiat. Let kids wear their hair however they want. Let your six year old get a mohawk. Once they start working the conformist corporate nightmare world will arrive to quash their dreams of creativity so let them enjoy it while they can. It's just HAIR. It grows back!

Well it's a good thing I stumbled into this thread, my friend. Allow me to shed some light on this for you.

Many redheads have freckles.

Many redheads try to avoid sunlight due to their fair skin.

i1126.photobucket.com

Some redheads may have short hair.

Some are curvier than others.

Even redheads like redheads!

I hope you've found this post helpful and informative.
