Fun fact: The Canadian Navy has 15 warships and 2 auxiliary ships.  Thus, this incident involved 50% of the Royal Canadian Navy's auxiliary ships and nearly 7% of their warships.

Better send in Canada's submarine to help. As long as the whole operation is on the surface because there is a bit of a rust problem and at least the Polish navy's submarine can go deeper.

On the plus side, there will soon be two new promotions to the title of Captain!  You know, because both captains of those ships will never command a ship until they retire and buy themselves a dinghy.

whatshisname: Are they those duds the British offloaded on us?

The very same. Now it wasn't all their fault either, we're the ones who bought British subs and decided we shouldn't buy the matching British torpedoes, but rather modify them to shoot the American ones we already owned. Nevermind that the modification took ages and cost more than the Spearfish torps would have..

/I think half the submarine fleet is floating under it's own bouyancy these days!

The insurance clearly stated that we were covered for any damage caused by another ship.  How else do you think we're going to be able to buy another battleship? it's not like were raining money like the USA!

Yeah, well, Pacific fleet...FWIW, at the end of WW2 Canada had the third largest navy in the world. Mind you they were mostly corvettes, but then arguably, corvettes were a deciding factor in the battle of the Atlantic. The longest battle of the war.

The Canadian government also had the balls to ask their servicemen what they thought about fighting in the Pacific once Germany was defeated.  Ships like the cruiser Uganda weren't redeployed because the crew elected not to volunteer for duty in the Pacific.

It looks like it's made of fiberglass and duct tape.

It's made from a custom alloy, then insulated on the inside.  It's probably 7mm steel on the hangar, although I'm not as familiar with that class compared to Halifax.

The gray colour is chosen to be difficult to see in Canadian waters.  It is a little duct-tapey, so it would in fact look a lot like fibreglass and duct tape. ;)

Actually, while I'm not sure how the ships are designed the smashed hanger will probably be a cheaper fix.

It wouldn't surprise me if they have to cut away the damage section of the bow to replace or straighten any damaged girders or breast hooks.

the post may have been alluding to the title of Captain, which is for the master or commanding officer of a ship, regardless of rank.
