This is one of my favorites, despite being a Joel guy.  It's just horribly, horribly earnest and earnestly awful.

This is a good one to start people off on their MST3k fandom.

Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash. Johnny Cash.

Back in '88 or '89 we had a get together, and my friend picked up this movie. It became apparent pretty quickly that it was awful, but we had a good time making fun of it. He felt badly that he had picked such a stinker, but we probably had a better time making fun of this turkey than we would have had watching a film that did not suck.

Definitely. Although I've found people to be real receptive to Prince of Space as well.

I dunno, too modern. The roots of MST3K are in black and white monster or horror movies.

I don't know why, but I always crack up at 'Bustaker.'

Come on, I race you to film obscurity.

Some people won't even watch black and white movies.  This kind of movie just gets your foot in the door.

Then I would recommend Space Mutiny or Giant Spider Invasion.

Which is ironic considering the Joel vs Mike flamewars.

There are Joel vs Mike flame wars? I prefer the Mike episodes but I'd hardly argue about it.

Oh yeah. Especially back in the old newsgroup days. I recall that every once in awhile Joel or Mike would go on to a board just for the specific purpose to reignite the flame war. (No such thing as bad publicity or some men just want to see the world burn? You decide.)

I like both of their episodes pretty evenly, but they aren't really comparable imho. Joel was the better comedian/idea man and Mike was the better writer and made the show 'broader'.

You take that back! Joel is undeniably better and you should feel ashamed in your ignorance!!1!

The spider from GSI was just stolen from the field in Wisconsin where the movie was filmed. Yes, it has been sitting there all this time. And yes, it was sold for parts and scrap. :(

Sad day for MSTies.

I just don't understand it. I'm about the biggest MST3K/Rifftrax fan there is and I just don't care. I like them both equally.  They both have their charms.  How could someone dislike Joel? How could someone dislike Mike?

DNWTV. I have a VHS of Soultaker I've been meaning to watch, and MST is for people too simple to mock movies for themselves.

Subby, what's the Tonya Harding refference? Four years after Soultaker, Joe Estevez, and Tonya Harding were both in Breakaway, but that can't be it.

I enjoy both Joel and Mike, though for me Joel episodes have a more hanging with your stoner buddies vibe.  But both have some classic episodes.  It's not like the Dick York/Dick Sargent debate....

The lead actress bears a resemblance to Tonya Harding.  Sort of.

I always kind of got a kick out of the pre-Mike episodes where Mike showed up in the skits in costume as a different character. (Didn't he play Torgo?) Sort of double-funny to see him pre-hosting in another capacity. Watch enough of them and you can see why they decided to make him the host.

Hate to admit it, but the skits and sketches are really my favorite parts; is there a way on the DVD to watch only those bits? I don't always have time to sit through the whole ninety-minute thing.
