One quick note to kick off this week's thread--there was a weekly Bundesliga thread that started last season but didn't quite gain traction, so I'm rolling that discussion, and any other footie-related team/league discussion into this weekly thread. Welcome, Bundesliga fans, La Liga fans, MLS fans, and everybody else.

Also, there was some discussion over everybody involved in the FFPL throwing in a couple bucks to get a prize for whoever won the league. I offered to hold the money and send the winner the prize at the close of the season. The offer still stands if you want to do something like that.

Do we need consensus on what to buy/how much to give? I figured I would just give midpoint $10 and cut out the middleman. :)

I've been following the maddening Arsenal transfer saga via Twitter. If there is a hell, I think it would be a lot like that.

Latest rumors involve Kalou, Kaka and some German kid (Axelrod).

2013-08-31 07:28:34 AM
For the neutrals today is just going to be the starter for the main corse tomorrow. The north London derby with the big spending Spurs vs the non spending Arsenal and Liverpool vs Man Utd are tomorrow. I expect at least two pages worth of controversy from the 'pool/Utd game.

Happy footie Saturday, farkers.

KAKA WILL FINALLY LEAVE. If there's one of those vanity FIFA game player purchases that never work out in your team, that was it. Nothing made me happier that day.

Looks like it's Ozil, Di Maria, Coentrao and Kaka who'll probably be gone before the window closes.

Not hungover today! Yes!

City matches just aren't the same without Mario

2013-08-31 07:46:27 AM
I had another wizard moment at the Supercup game, predicting Chelsea getting upset and losing in the final moments, a la 1999 UCL Final. Why can't I predict a damn thing in the FFPL?

2013-08-31 07:47:13 AM
Couple of goals from Dzeko via Zabaleta in a clean sheet victory would suit me fine

Seriously. 1 on 1 miss. Won't get much better than that.

Depends on what the target final prize amount should be ($50? $100?) and how many people want to be involved.

Hull looking dangerous early. What is going on with City?

Is Suarez back for that game. Because that would be completely awesome.

Wow. City looks terrible this year. I'm sure it's just them adjusting to Pellegrini's system, but damn. Seriously.

Hull had the ball in the back of the net but offside.

Just.

City a bit lucky

Someone mentioned a team shirt(jersey) in another thread. I think they'd cost $50 or so.

It also depends on how many people want to/remember to contribute.

Product of having zero defensive acquisitions after buying a bunch of offensive players, then losing a main defensive piece. I should know, I got to enjoy the lovely "Galacticos" after loving the days when we actually had great defensive players like Makelele and Hierro.

Yeah, really poor defensive shape without Kompany bossing it.

Nope, but he is eligible for the League Cup tie.

Aren't City playing a midfielder in the back 4? I remember someone saying so for the Cardiff tie.

This, although I think a proper team shirt is closer to $75, and if you include team patch, number and player lettering, it's much closer to $100-$125 with shipping.

That just happens to be against Man Utd

I'm still pissed off at Madrid for when I bought my jersey. Within a week, they switched sponsors.

Princip's Sandwich: Aren't City playing a midfielder in the back 4? I remember someone saying so for the Cardiff tie.

Nope. Javi Garcia was in for the Cardiff game, but now Nastasic is back with Lescott, so it's two proper centerbacks in the formation for City today.

I doubt Ozil leaves.  He wants to stay and his manager wants him.  And...after Real Madrid see that Gareth Bale is not quite as good as his transfer fee (he's good but not worth Ronaldo-like money) he will back on the pitch for RM.

Ozil was apparently livid at getting subbed out against Granada. With a team with such a logjam at midfield, you have to accept getting subbed out, especially in a 1-0 game against minnows.

United will lose to Brendan's title-challengers tomorrow.

United will not buy anyone.

Just getting these things out of the way. Enjoy your weekend :-)

Lot of parents popping up this transfer window. Higuain's, Cavani's, Bale's and now Ozil's.

That's bad, but not as bad as when you buy a jersey with your favorite player's name and number on it, and then he promptly leaves. I'm wondering how many Arsenal fans got Van Persie jerseys, they must have been pissed.

I disagree. 1-1 Draw or 2-1 United.
I agree.
You too.

As an Arsenal supporter I'd love to see them add Ozil and Benedict Howedes (CB from Schalke). Then next year let Wenger walk away with grace and hire Klopp from Dortmund and have him bring over Lewendoski with him.

I swear, who the hell schedules him for that. FIFA and UEFA try to avoid booking people who might go for one team or another, mostly to avoid clusterfarks like the Koman game. Why'd you book the guy who goes to ManU preseason games for their matches?

2013-08-31 08:50:46 AM
Regular me would love to city lose. Fantasy EPL me would love to see silva assist aguero for infinity goals...

I guess a good middle ground is city losing 5-4 with all 4 goals resulting from silva assisting aguero.

2013-08-31 08:56:39 AM
I will say this..this could spell disaster for city. The talent/egos on that team couldn't take losing to Cardiff AND Hull. The boot room would disintegrate in blame and frustration.

Purely for FFPL reasons, I want City to win this game.

To be fair. On paper this is an obvious banker game. I thought Cardiff was going to wake them up and they'd take it out on hull and win 4-0. But I'm also terrible at I guess the score so, there's that.

Due to this start, I'm dodging banking on Citeh at any point. I'd insure them if Arsenal didn't exist.

Same. I don't have faith in them the way they're playing right now. They're loaded with talent, but they're not playing cohesively at the moment and a better team has a good chance to dismantle them.
