Please tell me he did it while giving a middle finger to Rick Perry.

And he's got a chart to prove it

Good for you, funny looking dude who tried to warn us about NAFTA.

It's interesting to consider how his election would've change the two-party norm. It's a shame he temporarily backed out. Stockdale would've been a cool VP.

I'll admit, I checked to see if he was still alive.

He survives on infant stem cells, otherwise he would have wasted away long ago. This wasn't a donation, this was a payment.

/fully expect to hear something like this on FB

Just proves that baby murderers really don't need to rely on 0bummer's big-gubmint soshulizms to fund their infanticidin' and the free market and the benevolence of the country's noble Job Creators (blessings and peace be upon them) will solve all our problems.

Yes, he was entirely unprepared, but he could have outlasted the debate moderators by 7 or 8 years.

There's a giant sucking sound. . .

2013-08-31 05:03:39 AM
Reading up on Perot for the first time.  In 1992, I'm sure this all would've seemed crazy as hell, but post-Tea Party, I hardly find myself raising an eyebrow.

http://realchange.org/perot.htm

Perot got rich off government money -- Medicare and Medicaid, to be exact, two of the programs contributing the most to the deficit he talks about so much.
...
He tricked Dick Lamm into running against him, knowing he needed Reform to seem like a real, open party rather than his personal tool. But when Lamm took him seriously, Perot pulled every string to make sure Lamm lost, denying Lamm the party mailing list among other things. Many Lamm supporters never received their mail-in ballots, in fact.
...
Ross does not seem to be a liar, though he says untruths. Instead, he refuses to believe the information he doesn't like. He changes his perception, not the reality.
...
Perot's paranoia is pretty well known, due to his announcement in 1992 that he was quitting the presidential race (in which he was a very strong contender) because Republican's were planning to disrupt his daughters wedding (by forging photos of phony lesbian sex.)

Thank you, Mr. Perot

Perot's year was the first presidential election I ever really noticed.  That man had a way with graphs.

I remember Dennis Miller saying that we needed a crazy mofo like Perot in the presidency, because if some slimy guy like Newt Gingrich tried to get a backroom deal with him, he'd immediately take it public.  'You wanna know what that slimy Newt said to me?!'

Times have changed.

I'd forgotten he was staunchly pro-choice. I'm very glad he didn't win, but he sure wasn't a cookie cutter politician.

Most people who remember what it was like before legal abortions are pro-choice.

That is true I still don't really know what all he was for but some of the stuff he did as an exec from my understanding would be very bad as President.

I voted for him. I liked a lot of his ideas about outsourcing and stuff. Figured none of his crazy ideas would get past congress but none of theirs would get past his veto either.

Running a company is not the same as being President (or governor or whatever), the same as being a baseball coach doesn't mean you can coach basketball.

You should find his Stockdale rant.

And looking back, with the other two people on the stage with Stockdale at that debate being the empty suit Dan Quayle and the sanctimonious phony Al Gore, Stockdale comes out as superior.

I swear, the way people can posture that any cuts in the growth or additions to oversight on Medicare/Medicaid are 'throwing granny under the bus' and at the same time decry businesses for profiting from a government program that should just cut checks and not ask so many questions...

The only way providers were going to buy in to Medicare when it was created, given shiatty reimbursement rates, was for Washington to look the other way when the providers padded their bills. Everybody was delighted with that arrangement, and Perot found his way to make money off it too. That's being a realist, not a hypocrite.

I decry the slip of the term "tar-baby" into "can't use cuz it sounds racist". Along with "nubianrdly."

Maybe if we called it a bubble-gum baby?

Good.  Planned parenthood should get all the private funding people want to give them.

2013-08-31 09:21:01 AM
It's because spending money on family planning services for people who can't otherwise afford them is fiscally conservative and sound long term planning.

I don't think he would have signed NAFTA and he quite possibly would have stopped them from repealing Glass-Stegall.  maybe.
