So K-state has a new QB and 10 new defensive starters playing the two time defending I-AA champions?

That may look like an upset in the newsline, but it's hardly suprising.

Bill Snyder's lost his edge on sniffing out cupcakes.

The Bison down 4 with 8:58 on the clock, put together an 18 play, 80 yard, 8:30 TD drive to just break K-State's back. I know NDSU is no division 2 cupcake but still....In Manhattan, at night, first game of the year....That's troubling for the Wildcats. They completed 4 third downs in that drive, two of them on the first to series of the drive, including a 3rd and 11, and getting 11 on a 2nd and 13.

Could be a long year for the Wildcat defense.

Don't tell anyone I said this, but...

Way to go, Bison!

NDSU is a REALLY good FCS team.... they would be a perennial top level team in a few of the lower level FBS conferences (Sun Belt, Conf USA, MAC) if they were to try to jump to that level.

Who's Sam Houston State playing today? There's another upset in the making. They are the two time runner up to the bison.

Their FBS game is next week, Texas A&M.

This just proves that the upper 3/8's of the Big XII is better than the bottom 7/16's of the SEC.

They'd go 4-4 in the Big Ten every year.

No. Michigan was top 10. Kansas State, at present, is unranked. And picked to finish 6th in a 10-team league.

The Wolverine meltdown was epic.

Damn. I was thinking K-State might be 7-5 or even 8-4 in a down Big 12. Now I'm thinking more like 5-7 or 4-8.

Typical K-State Kitty Cats...they drop a turd down in the Bill Snyder Family Litterbox the same day they unveil a bronze statue of Snyder. Hilarious.

No because Georgia southern put together I-AA championships in the 80s and was considered dominant but would regularly get spanked by Div I programs. Its an upset no matter who tries to say small teams are great as long as they win.

Newsflash: FCS teams are getting a lot better - they beat a few FBS teams every year.

/I'd say my EWU Eagles (last champs before NDSU) would have a shot to upset Oregon State, but :/ @ losing our three top WRs

So still a middle of the pack at best in a real conference as Utah found out.

As I said, I was certainly not stating they should just into the SEC, and the person with the 4-4 Big Ten record is probably pretty accurate.  I was just saying they would be a very good team in those conferences I mentioned, which ARE FBS.  But, if only "real FBS conferences" matter, then, lets just get the Big 4 conferences to 16 teams each, add ND, and create their own "Super Top Level FBS", and everyone else can play in a new "Sub-FBS" level, and not even have this charade of "We have 124 FBS teams".

As much as it pains me, as a North Dakota alum, those cow molesters from down the road in Fargo have a pretty good football team.

They've beat Minnesota, Colorado St., Kansas and Kansas St in successive years.

That's not luck.

Two years isn't enough to prove much of anything.  Besides, middle of the pack in a top conference isn't too bad.

Mostly I'm just tired of everyone acting like these teams are permanent.  "Utah had a crap year last year, therefore their win over Alabama in the Sugar Bowl didn't mean anything and Bama just wasn't trying."

No.  Rosters change.  Let's stop using what happened 3-5-10 years ago as evidence for today, or what happens today as evidence for the past.  Instead, let's just enjoy some football.  And, you know, the upcoming playoff system that'll make these arguments (slightly) less important.

Playing in a conference that rewards them with a lot more money would help them recruit better players, too.  Sure, their team  this year might go 4-4 in the Big 10, but if they played in the Big 10, they'd get more money, and that would help them in the long run.

Probably bad karma for the Wildcats and Snyder that his statue was designed by a KU grad and made in Lawrence.

10?
20?
more than 20?

Consequence of the information age. The "knowledge gap" is closing.

In the same manner that access to the internet allows villagers in 3rd world farming communities access to agricultural practices and techniques developed on the other side of the planet, smaller programs are able to access training and coaching practices and techniques previously inaccessible.

Yes, the bigger schools will still get the best recruits and coaches. However, the upper levels traditionally maintained large, exclusive knowledge bases: knowledge of training techniques, coaching techniques, management techniques. With the dispersal and sharing of this knowledge across the internet, the contents of these knowledge bases is no longer exclusive.

Hey, I was just saying I wasn't bold enough to call that. Especially since we outplayed UW and WSU in the past two years and blew those games. But that was the dopest way to celebrate my daughter turning one ever - her party started at about the same time that was wrapping up anyway. Too bad the refs tried desperately to keep OSU in the game with that last free timeout AND free play.

"Oh hey, this guy's supposedly injured when OSU has no timeouts and it was a play in the middle of the field, meaning we have to do a runoff and the game would be over...instead, let's add a second to the clock and give them the injury timeout with no penalty!"
