Police searched him and found seven condoms in his pockets, which they said he could not explain.

...
sex seven times?

But in all seriousness, this is actually a really dangerous thing - by using "possession of condoms" as evidence of prostitution, it encourages prostitutes to not carry condoms... which results in the spread of more STDs.

/not to mention criminalizing possession of something that's perfectly legal to possess

It most certainly is not.  It's an example of (hopeful) government interference to influence the market - this guy wanted the police to remove what he perceived as his competition by getting rid of the women.  He's no different than a bank or a union.

I'll venture a guess and say he doesn't pay taxes on quite a bit of his income, so it's only fitting his plan backfired.  He doesn't deserve extra help.

Yeah, I was wondering about that, too.  What, precisely, is the "legal" number of condoms to have in one's possession in Omaha?  Is a condom considered "sex paraphernalia"?  Is it subject to the same kind of status as "drug paraphernalia"?  Does that mean sex has been criminalized in Nebraska?  Jesus, guys.  It's Nebraska.  What else is there to do?

Yeah, that's really disturbing.  If I got pulled over while driving to my girlfriend's house, they'd find quite a few condoms in my car.  Is that grounds for me to get arrested and charged with prostitution?  I get that the police made a judgement call, and sometimes that's necessary....but it is troubling that someone, even if they are obviously prostituting, should be asked to "explain" possessing condoms or any other non-controlled item.

I enjoy making very sturdy water balloons.
I am on my way to teach a seminar to local teenagers on safe sex practise.
I am a street performer. My act involves very loose latex finger puppets who all wear hats.
I suffer severe anxiety. These are my emotional support condoms.
I intend to fill these with cocaine then swallow them for smuggling purposes SORRY BAD IDEA
My restaurant ran out of finger cots and I am delivering these as temporary emergency replacements.
I am building a bungee cord for mice.
I am a performance artist. You wouldn't understand. But yes, these are all going up my arse.
I had eight. One disappeared. Until I solve this mystery I refuse to let the others out of my sight.

Yep, it's pretty sad cops even brought that up about the condoms. Hell a prostitute might should be charged more if they didn't have condoms.
/Yes I believe prostitution should be decriminalized and regulated with regular health screenings.

Harry Blackitt: No, no. I mean, because we are members of the Protestant Reformed Church, which successfully challenged the autocratic power of the Papacy in the mid-sixteenth century, we can wear little rubber devices to prevent issue.

Mrs. Blackitt: What d'you mean?

Harry Blackitt: I could, if I wanted, have sexual intercourse with you...

Mrs. Blackitt: Oh, yes, Harry.

Harry Blackitt: ...and, by wearing a rubber sheath over my old feller, I could insure... that, when I came off, you would not be impregnated.

Mrs. Blackitt: Ooh.

Harry Blackitt: That's what being a Protestant's all about. That's why it's the church for me. That's why it's the church for anyone who respects the individual and the individual's right to decide for him or herself. When Martin Luther nailed his protest up to the church door in fifteen-seventeen, he may not have realised the full significance of what he was doing, but four hundred years later, thanks to him, my dear, I can wear whatever I want on my John Thomas...

[sniff]

Harry Blackitt: ... and, Protestantism doesn't stop at the simple condom. Oh, no. I can wear French Ticklers if I want.

Mrs. Blackitt: You what?

Harry Blackitt: French Ticklers. Black Mambos. Crocodile Ribs. Sheaths that are designed not only to protect, but also to enhance the stimulation of sexual congress.

Mrs. Blackitt: Have you got one?

Harry Blackitt: Have I got one? Uh, well, no, but I can go down the road any time I want and walk into Harry's and hold my head up high and say in a loud, steady voice, 'Harry, I want you to sell me a condom. In fact, today, I think I'll have a French Tickler, for I am a Protestant.'

Mrs. Blackitt: Well, why don't you?

The article seemed to make the condoms a major issue for the case "Police searched him and found seven condoms in his pockets, which they said he could not explain. "    like they didn't have anything to charge him with until they found 7 condoms on his person.

yeah you are right, i guess i looked at his admission and being upset girls were "in his area", and considered the condoms on the same level with his being dressed as a woman in a prostitution area.

For sure the possible unintended consequence of unprotected sex with a hooker is certainly a very valid concern
