Jesus Christ, really? Does every single sci-fi property have to belong to JJ Abrams and his three hacks? I'm not cyncial enough to believe that it's just because JJ is Spielberg's godson so blowjobs must be involved.

Is this good? Is this bad? I've never heard of Westworld before.

So ya'll just let me know if I'm supposed to be excited or outraged ...

I see no problem with this.  But then I don't spend inordinate amounts of time nerd-raging over some sci-fi director.

Classic-but-cheesy early-70s sci-fi.  On a par with Logan's Run.

It's exactly the same as Jurassic Park, but swap dinosaurs for robot cowboys.

It's from the same guy who wrote the novel Jurassic Park. It's about a tourist attraction in a western setting. The attraction  in this case is a robotic cowboy that breaks loose and seeks to terminated the tourists. Hilarity ensues,

However, now that Abrams' name has been mentioned, this fairly forgotten story is now far too precious and peoples childhoods are being raped and lens flare etc, etc, etc.

I hope one of the characters is scripted to yell "KHAAAAAAAAAANNNN!!!!!" at a key moment, completely ruining the scene and making a cheesy mess of the film.....

Solid premise

That 70's flick was on the cheap side...but still fun...and it had Yul Brenner as a proto-terminator/gunslinger!

It was Richard Benjamin's best performance, if such a thing can be said.

To HawgWild: It's a fun movie, it's part of the inspiration for the Simpson episode "Itchy & Scratchy Land".

Dammit.

That doesn't even begin to describe it. What was Peter Fonda doing?  Terrible film on all levels except for Blythe Danner, she looked hot.

I hope Brent Spiner plays the robot cowboy again, but he kills Alexander this time.

Well Westworld was set in the desert so lens flares can abound.

It might be a good series, especially with CGI and HBOs big budget and good writers.  Plus we might get to see some guys like Omar from the Wire as evil robots!

I don't know, Alexander' grew about 23 years in 5. That's even faster than Rocky's kid.

Sounds good. I liked Westworld, and I've liked most of what Abrams has done. May not be edgy enough for HBO though.

Klingon kids grow fast.

Because honor or something.

See, kids, in the 1970s you could have Richard Benjamin as the hero of your movie.

I'm old enough to have seen Westworld when it came out, so my opinion doesn't matter.

Wasn't there already an attempt at a Westworld TV show?  Ah, yes, looking at IMDB, I see that "Beyond Westworld" lasted a season back in 1980.

But everyone knows Michael Crichton's real masterpiece was Runaway with Tom Selleck as the hero and Gene Simmons (yes, the guy from Kiss) as the villain.

Short synopsis: wealthy guests visit the resort island of Delos, which promises real-life roleplaying fun in one of several environments (ancient Rome, the old West, etc.), where they interact with incredibly lifelike androids. The androids are programmed not to harm the guests, but something goes terribly wrong, and the robots go nuts. One of them is a gunslinger in the Old West area, who takes offense at something one of the guests says, and hunts him down with an aim to kill him.

They could get Christian Bale to play James Brolin's character.

The YouTube video at the bottom of the article claims to be the 1973 trailer, yet it mentions Jurassic Park, which came out in 1990.

That was and still is a pretty good movie, and idea...
