Can we stop this stupid meme?

France still engages in military actions in Africa often and has top of the line special forces. They have used the conflicts in Libya and Mali as an advertisement for their underselling fighter jets

It is getting a little annoying.

Are we still mocking the French for being right about Iraq?  Or are we still making fun of them for not having been separated by water from Germany during WW2?

Cowardice expresses itself in different ways.  France surrendered to Germany because victory would not have been possible.  The US rolled backed civil rights and freedoms based just on 9/11.

Good question.  Canada liberated the Netherlands in WW2, we just weren't dinks about it afterwards.

Don't forget about being right about Vietnam (sorta).

I still have a vision of Turkey rolling in the ground, US/Nato wailing on Syria from the air, and the Legion air dropping into Damascus.

Right.  The fact is that at the beginning of WW2, Germany's land machine probably had more relative superiority than any force since Macedonia under Alexander.  If the English Channel did not exist, Britain would have fallen in a week and the Germans would have won WW2 before the US even thought about getting involved.

Look it all comes down to the simple fact that we don't like to admit that the revolution would have never succeed without their intervention.

My mother's maiden name is Bartow, an anglicanization of Barteau that happened around 1600.  So I am about 1/2048th French, and I find your dismissiveness of our heritage to be quite troublesome.

I believe the French still remember WWI and the introduction of poison gas into the trenches. France may have won WWI against Germany, but they lost an entire generation of men fighting it.

I appreciate the French backing President Obama in possibly taking military action against the Syrian government for deploying poison gas in its civil war.

Apparently the French have more balls than the English Parliament and the American public, as represented here on Fark.

The French in 1940 actually fought better than the Soviets in 1941.  The Soviets just had a hell of a lot more room to run away into.

Well my friend, could we please define the line by which the U.S. is supposed to intervene in foreign conflicts.  Seriously, is it a matrix of circumstances or do we just jump in at chemical weapons every time? Seriously, I'd really like to know.  Because us 'Murican patriots might not be so anxious to jump in to a conflict that results in creating more terrorists because the uneducated populace of the countries breeding these terrorists seem to think we're killing Muslims just because they're  Muslims thanks to the Arab / Persian equivalents of Fox News shoving propaganda down their throats.

Here is an idea.

We promise to never, NEVER get involved in the Middle East again (that means you too, Israel) unless you, YOU middle easterners promise to get rid of your own god damn terrorists.  If you're a moderate - GET. TO. F*CKING. WORK.  Police your own.  Show us that you want to prosper and are willing to take assistance from the U.S. so long as you've made the necessary steps to reform the radicals holding sway over the entire region....

Well, that sounded good and I had more to write until I realized that the GOP can't even do that in our "civilized, educated" country.

Nevermind, Middle East, we'll keep funding your quagmires.

2013-08-30 03:48:28 PM
God, the 'French are cowards!11!' meme is idiotic, even for a meme. The French officially surrendered, when faced with an insanely powerful war machine, without a channel to protect them, less than a generation after the LAST World War farked their military up. And yet, even then, the French resistance put up one hell of a fight afterwards.

Never mind that, without their assistance, we would almost certainly not have won the American Revolution. Never mind that, at the very least, WWI would've lasted a lot longer. Never mind that, and let's be honest, the whole "French are cowards" thing is only popular because Republicans got butthurt about them not supporting their little war for profit. They're totally cheese-eating surrender monkeys!
