Such a fresh, relevant thing to make a movie about.

At least they got a halfway decent director.

Glad to hear Sam Raimi jumped ship.

I'd much rather have a StarCraft movie.

Bobby Kotick is not above finding the most delicious gold 5 miles beneath the Earth's crust under tons of micro-transactions. This is just his latest adventure in getting money from the addicted fanbase before WoW finally retires as king of MMO's and becomes as relevant as Super Mario 3 is today.

You know that attending the movie will get you a code you can redeem for in-game pets or something, too. They'll probably have multiple pets available so you can go see the movie several times. Then they'll repeat for the DVD sales.

Not to defend Bobby, but Blizzard was money-grubbing Evil w/ a capital E before the merger. Activision learned a few of their dark arts from Blizzard.

I think the main problem for this movie is that it will have to be at least as good as the videos they've created for the games.

3 years too late and the population size that will want to see this movie is VERY small to begin with. I hope they have a budget and stick to it if they plan on making any money.

i won't be stopping my EQNext binge long enough to go see it. sorry blizz - after 3 bans for gold selling (hey, what else is there to do in that shiatty game??), no more moolah from me ;)

/also diablo III singlehandedly killed a storied genre of multiplayer gaming
//arguably a bigger disappointment than duke nukem forever.
///not even going back for Hearthstone

Have they announced the gist of the plot yet? Will it be an original story set in the WoW universe or a representation of the books or in-game cinematics?

So on opening weekend it will load slowly, play with a lot of stuttering, have major bugs plot holes and crash at random?

It better have Nicholas Cage playing a druid.

and who is going to play Deckard Cain?  Sean Connery is too senile now, maybe Jeremy Irons?

I guess it's live action? Meh.

I stopped playing WoW many, many years ago... but Blizzard has some of the best cinematics ever. I've always wanted a full length movie, or even a TV show using their animation teams.

Starring Shia LaBoeuf as Sir Anduin Lothar, the Lion of Azeroth.

INT. NIGHT - SEMI-FURNISHED BASEMENT

JOE SCHMEDLAP is playing World of Warcraft® while sipping Mountain Dew. Unbeknownst to him, a meteor comes crashing down outside of his house. There's a bright flash.

FADE WHITE INTO

EXT. DAY - FOREST

We're suddenly in the game! Joe has become his character!

Huh, they moved the Canadian Motion Picture Park to Victoria when I wasn't looking.

Snark aside, if they have a decent script based in the Warcraft setting and story, Duncan Jones as director can quite probably do something good with it. Moon was farking stellar, that gives him some benefit of the doubt.

Well if it's live action, it has a leg up on the Mass Effect movie. shiat's not even CG, just poorly made drawings.

I watched that on netflix. It was a trainwreck.  Bad in every possible way from animation to plot to the script and voice acting.

I really have to ask about this movie though.

Are we going to get a Pandarian on Tauren love scene?

/or are we going with night elves?

I was expecting this to be about some Lifetime fact-based movie about parents who played WoW while their kids starved to death.

Pandaland killed it for me. All the dailies and the Talent revamp made character customization pretty much cosmetic. Plus being able to fly all over Cataclysm and then have the rug pulled out for Pandoria felt like a huge douche move.
