SauronWasFramed: CLARIFICATION: The healthcare at the VA near me is rather sketchy. I would rather take my chances elsewhere than have to submit to a VA doctor

The biggest problem with the VA system now is the backlog of people trying to get into the system.  Sending a bunch of guys off to war tends to do that, but no one ever planned for it.

Now once your in, at least around here, it's a different story.  Dorn VA hospital in Columbia SC is great.  Back in the mid-90's it's wasn't the nicest looking place in the world, but damn - it's the shiat now.  Here's what happened the last time I took gramps down there:

I drive up to the front door to let him out (he's got trouble walking).  Turns out this isn't that uncommon, since they now offer valet parking for people without grandsons who can take the day off.
We walk up to the receptionists desk.  He hands her his ID card, she scans it and says "Welcome Mr. Karac.  You're appointment is in Dr. so-and-so's office on the third floor.  Just go right around this corner to the elevators.  When you get off at 3, it'll be down the hall to the left.
We get in the office, he hands the card to the nurse there.  "Good morning Mr. Karac.  If you'll just give us a minute we'll get you in to see the doctor."  We sit down, and five minutes later she calls us back.
He talks with the doc a bit and the doc decides he needs to draw some blood.  He picks up a phone and a nurse walks in less than a minute later to pull blood.  He then says he's gonna give gramps a prescription for some whatever and that he can pick it up at the pharmacy in the basement.
We go down to the basement, he hands his card to the nurse there.  She scans it, walks over to a counter, picks up a bag of pills, scans the barcode on it to make sure it matches, and hands him his meds.

Valet parking, a receptionist who can give you directions to any office in the building, a five minute wait in the waiting room, no wait for blood drawing, and prescriptions that can be called into the pharmacy and filled in the time it takes an elevator to get from the third floor to the basement?  And all of it run off of VA ID card - no mention of health insurance companies, copays, deductibles, or money whatsoever?  Go find me a non-VA hospital in the United States that'll do all that.

Yeah. At least liberald are consistent in their hatred. All good unless you are a non democrat minority. Fark them, don't they know how much democrats help them.

I hate you because you're willfully ignorant and lacking in reasonable thought, ethics, and civility.  That doesn't fit in your narrative does it?

Also, 0/potato.

They always do, don't they...

SauronWasFramed: VA benefits?  Kinda like sending the cow to a slaughterhouse, ain't it?  I reckon if its the only thing you have, it beats nothing.....but not by much.

I don't at all understand what that means...  For ME, it means that I can use my VA benefits to allow myself AND my husband to qualify for a home loan.

CLARIFICATION:  The healthcare at the VA near me is rather sketchy.  I would rather take my chances elsewhere than have to submit to a VA doctor.

So...? You had a bad experience with the VA, therefore VA benefits should not be available to same-sex couples?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what minority groups the Democratic Party is not at least modestly sympathetic towards.

He means CEOs, 1%ers, etc.

Karac: mrshowrules: Karac: mrshowrules: Yaaay! Free sex changes.

What in the world does that have to do with anything I said?

You really should welcome expanding VA-style health care to the general populace - they're getting pretty good at dealing with mental health problems.

Lighten up Francis.  I just thought the idea of getting a sex change just because it was free to be funny.

"The what can I get for free", does seem silly.  Your starting point should be, what do I need.

Well, let's see.  Gramps lost a couple of fingers to the Japanese, so he was hardly getting VA care 'for free'.
And since that time I was taking him to the hospital for some kind of heart problem, it couldn't hardly be described as anything other than 'what do i need'.

Could you go head and build me a second strawman to burn down while this one still smoldering?

That's my point, you got stuff you needed.  You didn't go up to the VA and say "what can I get for free" and got things you didn't need just for shiats and giggles.  That was my only point.  Don't think about too hard, it is just an observation.

coeyagi: Cletus C.: This does allow the VA to continue its "if they don't ask about benefits, don't tell them about benefits" policy.

Which started during Benghazi.

themselves? Jesus?

Republicans hate themselves more than anything else. A profound, near-suicidal self-loathing is the only possible reason for their incredibly (self) destructive behavior. As pitiful, disgusting, and loathsome as they are on the outside, imagine how much worse it must be to actually be one.

Any idea what happened with the 1950's cohort? The influence of Reagan and the Religious Right during their political awakening perhaps?

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal.

Bless your heart.  Here's hoping you never have to rely on the VA for medical attention.

Awww sweetie, bless YOURS...  I already have (Florida, California, Massachusetts), a few times, and already had absolutely no problems other than a slightly longer wait than at a regular doctors office.

I can't speak to medical benefits but VA education benefits paid for my undergrad (Montgomery GI Bill) and my grad school (Post 9-11 GI Bill). The latter included a monthly stipend that was over $2K a month, straight into my pocket. In the end, 6 years of service earned me about $100K that paid for two degrees. And zero debt, student loan or otherwise.

Like a sore dick, you can't beat it.
