Don't fark with national symbols in SE Asian countries.  That is a universal no-no in that region, still a lot of authority held by the state in that regard.

'Consider the source '. Indonesia and Malaysia historically have a sort of testy relationship. The Malaysians are both contemptful and scared of their 7-times-bigger neighbor. For a foreign manager - particularly a Malaysian one - to joke like this shows painfully poor judgment.

/disclaimer: living in Indonesia, a country unafflicted by any 'state religion', thank you. Malaysia is a poisoned creation, where each ethnic group (Bumi-Chinese-Tamil) despises and fears the other. Bound to blow apart sooner or later.

Gee, as AFAIK the Yankees don't have a actual flag.

If by "Yanks" you mean the USA (aka 'The only part of the Americas that matter') then don't worry your little Canucky head, we aren't that touchy about it anymore.

Sounds just like some Americans who believe they fought for a literal flag, made in China and sold at Wal-Mart.

Indonesians also consistently slaughter West Papuans for flying their flag.

Panties of the world unite and take over!

It's a video.  Probably safe for work, but I did not watch all of it for your bosses approval.  Not sure which one is for Indonesia.

In America, people only get angry when you burn the flag, which is a perfectly acceptable way to dispose of old flags that are no longer in pristine condition.

/So once you get the racing stripe in your U.S.A. flag underwear/bikini, you ignorant Teahadist that ignores the flag code, head on down to the street near President Obamas house and show him how you burn your filth.

I may be wrong on this, but I think Malaysia and Indonesia have a bit of a biatchy thing going on the way Spain and Mexico do (at least as far as I could tell based on Spaniards in the States).  If he'd been Indo, it probably wouldn't have been a big deal.

Many a guy, myself included, has woken to find the girl he picked up the night before has left a hinomaru on his sheets.

Fun fact: in Japan, it's a crime to desecrate a national flag, but only one of another country (and only then if the government of that country makes an official complaint about you). You can buy a Japanese flag and do whatever you want to it, and nobody can legally do jack about it.

Flag desecration was wrapped up in the "dishonoring the Emperor" laws that were all tossed following the war and never got replaced. Laws about other countries' flags were under a different statue that survived the postwar revisions.
