It's certainly a relief to know that the cold war is over, with all the worries that war could break out at any time, the constant manouvering between east and west, and the endless propoganda. Now we have glasnost and democracy in Russia things can only get better there. Yup, the bad days are certainly over. Why, Russia is virtually the same as Switzerland now!

What's that?

No, I haven't checked the news for a few weeks, been busy.

<clickity>

Damn it!!!

...propaganda? Oh wait, when THEY do it it's propaganda (and are handily beating you at almost every step), but when YOU do it it's all about the Species and like science and stuff.

Got it.

SCIENCE AND COMMUNISM ARE INSEPARABLE!

I wasn't aware scientism was a thing back in the 1950s. I guess after the collapse of the USSR, most of the scientites came to the Free World to spread their religion of AGW, eugenics, and prohabition.

But look on the bright side. Scientism also gave us the civil rights movement. So there is that.

You were fine. It IS propaganda. And nobody did it better than the Russians and the Germans. Our US stuff was good, but not AS good. We haven't had real propaganda since WWII, really, but we had some good stuff, too. A bare-bones informational poster isn't propaganda, but this knob-slobbing we're-great-and-we're-bending-over-backwards-to-tell-you-about-it stuff IS propaganda, even when we do it. I love this stuff, I would collect every piece I could ever find if I had the money. US, German, Russian(Soviet), they were the heavy hitters.

I had to imitate an art form for one of my graphic design classes in '02 or so, and with all of the rabid uber-patriotism running around, I decided to do a Constructivist(The name for the Soviet and German style of this, at least the early stuff) styled piece, but based on this PATRIOT Act bullshiat, as well as some supposedly defunct program that seems suspiciously like what the NSA is doing now. I themed it like a Soviet propaganda poster, but gave it a current US theme about burning subversive books and called them "Freedom Fires". I nailed the fark out of that assignment... :)

The posters remind me of the novel We by Zamyatin.

WTF is up with IO9?  A steady pop-up ad that flogs books I have no interest in and won't go away, and a wall of text on the left that underlays the posters?

Makes it impossible to enjoy the subject matter.  The other IO9 post ('Cars with Propellors') is working the same way.

Is anyone else having this problem?  I'm running Win7 x64 and Chrome.  (Just checked IE 8 - sites work fine in IE 8.  Can't try Firefox - it's FUBAR'd on this machine; got into a pi$$ing match between Firefox and Java, and as soon as I launch Firefox, it locks up tight.)

I'll get a pic tonight and try to remember to post it. I think it came out pretty nice...
