Maybe I am disrespecting physics, but how could a vehicle (even a truck) going five mph cause a shoulder separation (presumably when the player hit the ground) and prompt the coach to say "it was kind of bad at the time."

That thing could not have been going only 5mph, no?

Trucks are pretty heavy.  5 mph is faster than you walk.  Picture the fattest you know.  Now pretend he is running at you and hits your shoulder when you aren't ready for it. it could injure you pretty good..  A pickup is fatter than that guy.

F=MA

Even if the acceleration isn't that great, with enough mass getting love-tapped can hurt.  Add in falling in an awkward position (hell, we've seen baseball players fall UP the stairs and land on the 15-day DL), and I can see him wrenching his shoulder pretty badly.

Some little wankstain tripped me going down the hallway in 8th grade, and I put my hand out to break my fall.  My hand somehow rolled and all that energy from falling went into snapping my wrist.

/Also, apologies to Grand Valley State - I see that name and I think it's that bullshiat Christian for-profit school that joined the WAC.  No, GVSU is a legit public school in Michigan.  I'm keep confusing it with Grand Canyon University.

Please tell me "accidently" is some sad attempt at a pun and not how the reporter thinks "accidentally" is actually spelled.

Jeez, if we didn't want a teammate to play we'd just give him the wrong date and time of the next game

Didn't some guy that played for Denver Broncos say he did this and it was from something else?  I would guess it was over 5 years ago...

When I was in high school, our starting quarterback missed the first two games of the season after he rolled a Honda three wheeler down a 30-foot embankment, and through a barbed-wire fence. 40 stitches over his shoulder blade.

I knew FEMA was really there to do more harm then good.

Wasn't there a guy who said he hurt himself falling off a truck, but was actually hurt falling while popping wheelies on a motorcycle in a pickup's flatbed?

// also, there's the sad tale of Chris Henry

"Grand Valley State lineman accidently struck by teammate in pickup truck"

Poor guy - got hit right in the pickup truck!

I would have agreed with you if I hadn't looked it up. From Merriam-Webster

Wasn't that Jeff Kent?  Around the same time he was playing at an elite level?

He was bumped by the truck and tried to catch his fall with his right arm and had his shoulder dislocated from the landing.

Huh. So it is a secondary variation. I have learned something today. Thank you, PluckYew.

Sometimes a lie would be preferable. Case in point: George Brett's hemorrhoids. Sometimes I wonder if he really had 'em, or just made up that story to gross out his teammates.

Coming right after Prime-Roid-Era Bonds in the batting order would make Uggla look elite.
