Why does Ross, the largest friend, not simply eat the other five?

jayhawk88: Did he tape up a copy of one of his Friends royalty checks? Because that's what I'd do.

Residual check.  And basically, that's what he did: he bought a perfectly good house, fought everyone legally until he was allowed to tear it down, then he fought everyone legally until he was allowed to build what he wanted.  Then the build took two years.  This house has cost him about six times what any other house in the neighborhood would have.

And the whole process has pissed all the neighbors off for about six years.

Wasn't the character defined as not being cool? In fact, in fine modern sitcom tradition, weren't all three guys idiots and the girls smart, sexy and/or charmingly quirky?

FTA, "through a passive-aggressive dig"

That's enough to get you tasered, to death.

I should have skipped the article and just read your post, it was 10X more informative, it actually explains why his neighbors are pissed off and it only took a short paragraph to do it.

Why should the neighbors be pissed if it's his damn house? Everyone's such a busybody.

If I understand correctly, they were upset because the house was 2 years away from being eligible for historical landmark status.  Sure it's his right, but was there no other newer house to demolish?  If that particular spot was so important, well now his neighbors are going to hate him forever and will probably go out of their way to make things difficult.

And the house isn't done yet. Probably several months more work remain.

And his neighbors are far from "super cool". The commenter's and readership of EVGrieve, the local blog which has covered much of this story, consists of the leftover dregs of the East Village. Burnouts and neverwheres that cling on to an imagined past of the neighborhood.

I don't understand why he would want to raise a family in this particular area. It just doesn't mane any sense as it is now largely a nightlife locale.

Also, the townhouse has three front doors and no curb cut.

It was not a designated landmark just another old building in New York City. Do we really have to save every old building?

Oh, thats easy. If you know the right people, one day magically a "no parking zone" goes up at your doorstep.
