Not sure how the parents or other siblings are untitled to much of anything, but buddy down a kidney for nothing and sis for having to go half way across the country to get fixed up should be getting paid.

$25000 each? Is that it? Pay the f*ck up. shiat if I were down a kidney because of negligence I would be asking for a helluva lot more than that.

I always feel really bad for people like that nurse in stories like this. I make mistakes on the job all the time, mine just don't involve anybody dying. Granted, if my job were life and death I'd be a lot more careful, but shiat's going to happen at some point no matter how careful everyone is and it has to feel absolutely awful if that lightning bolt is aimed at you.

Throwing away a Kidney and forgetting to supersize the fries are two very different things. I work in an industry where if I screw up, it could jeopardize my ability to continue working in my profession. I understand mistakes happen, but at some point you learn to exercise due diligence at all times. IMHO

Brother would have been down a kidney either way. Girl gets kidney either way.

The only possible [wild-assed] claim they could possibly make is (if I am understanding this right) the bit about sibling consortium, in that if she had his kidney it would somehow be a bonding thing between them.

And even that's just being whiny.

she was gonna get a young health kidney.  maybe she got an older, crappier kidney instead.  that would suck

I don't blame you but it really did happen. Old news too.

There's something else the article failed to mention. Even though they found another kidney for the woman, there was still someone out there who probably died due to lack of a kidney directly caused by this.

Sue the hospital.  Shoot the nurse.  She's incompetent, and someone is going to die because she's an idiot.

A red wine like a cabernet sauvignon would go best with kidneys.  However, if it is kidneys with a cream sauce, then it would be an Alsatian pinot gris, preferably a dry one.  If the dish contains mustard, then a white wine with lots of mineral flavor.

Studson: Throwing away a Kidney and forgetting to supersize the fries are two very different things.

And I'm sure different levels of diligence and protocols of considerably higher rigor were followed than those of a fry cook, but human brains simply do not work that way. Sometimes shiat just happens.

I mean, yea, we don't know WHY it happened, but sometimes, no matter careful you are, wrong information is passed or poor decisions are made or you just happen to not be thinking about the task at hand in that 300 milliseconds you really needed to be even if you spent the prior 4 hours focused directly on it and nothing else.

Humans just make errors. It happens. I'm not saying she shouldn't have been let go or anything, I'm just saying shiat happens and I'm empathetic to the fact that she probably feels like complete shiat that shiat happened and somebody got hurt because of her. If that were me I know I'd be devastated over my mistake.

Not only that, and I'm no doctor so bear with me, but wouldn't the brother's kidney have a better chance of being accepted by the sister's body? I think blood type has something to do with it too.

Then again I'm an idiot when it comes to medical stuff.

Oh great! Not again!

2013-08-29 09:50:16 PM
They threw it away, fired the nurses, put an admin person on leave, paid for the patient to fly to Colorado for surgery there, the family sued them for a grand total of $200k (assuming two parents), and they're fighting over the amount in court (trying to get it down to $50k, by the sound of it.)

Which their insurance company will pay anyway.

Nothing about this sounds at all unreasonable, actually.

2013-08-29 09:50:29 PM
That's the high quality you can expect from a for-profit healthcare system.

"a nurse, Judith Moore, threw it away as she discarded the contents of a slush machine before the operation was over."

So they had the kidney on ice (going by a quick google of "medical slush machine") and she mistakenly dumped it?  That really is sad.

It's good thing we have 4,000% markup, for profit medical care.  Can you imagine how bad this would have been if it was some backwards, commie, soshlist country offering tax funded medical care?

you said it better than I could.

liver is pretty heavy though, and easy to fark up. you want to slice it thin and saute it fast in a coating grease.. cook it rare and let the carry over heat finish it on the way to the table to medium. other wise it turns to dust.

You do realize that 6 out of every 10 dollars of healthcare, comes from the Taxpayers, of course you do?

LOOK OUT, IT'S A BUSH!!
