Screw you, the Steelers are playing tonight, and we get as close to a pro-level Georgia/Florida game as we can get.

/for the record, as bad as Jacksonville is, they're still better than that joke of a football team the college out of Athens fields

I've got box seats for Tuel Time tonight, so I will be absent from this thread. But, should be not-your-average 4th preseason game for us.

Yeah, probably closer to the truth, but you can't really troll a thread with that.

Some idiot on the radio tried to say Tebow was a good QB because he led a team to the playoffs.

You know who led his team to two consecutive AFC Championship games?  Marc Sanchez

To add some interest to this thread, I found a website that lets you pick every 2013 game, and see what your projected standings are (think Yahoo & ESPN's "Playoff Generator", except open now):

http://clinton-morell.com/n.html

Here is my predictions:
#       AFC East        WLT     Div
3       New England     11-5    4-2
        Miami           7-9     3-3
        Buffalo         5-11    3-3
        NY Jets         4-12    2-4
#       AFC North       WLT     Div
4       Cincinnati      9-7     4-2
        Cleveland       8-8     3-3
        Baltimore       7-9     3-3
        Pittsburgh      7-9     2-4
#       AFC South       WLT     Div
2       Houston         13-3    5-1
6       Indianapolis    9-7     4-2
        Tennessee       8-8     2-4
        Jacksonville    3-13    1-5
#       AFC West        WLT     Div
1       Denver          14-2    6-0
5       Kansas City     9-7     2-4
        San Diego       6-10    2-4
        Oakland         6-10    2-4

#       NFC East        WLT     Div
4       Washington      10-6    5-1
        Dallas          7-9     4-2
        Philadelphia    6-10    2-4
        NY Giants       4-12    1-5
#       NFC North       WLT     Div
2       Green Bay       13-3    5-1
        Minnesota       9-7     3-3
        Chicago         8-8     3-3
        Detroit         5-11    1-5
#       NFC South       WLT     Div
3       Atlanta         10-6    4-2
6       New Orleans     10-6    4-2
        Carolina        8-8     3-3
        Tampa Bay       6-10    1-5
#       NFC West        WLT     Div
1       Seattle         13-3    6-0
5       San Francisco   10-6    3-3
        St. Louis       7-9     2-4
        Arizona         4-12    1-5

A few things I noticed....

One, the trend has been just about every year, at least 4-5 teams from the previous playoff teams don't repeat into the playoffs.   I only have 2 falling out (Baltimore & Minnesota), so, I'm being rather conservative on that trend.  There are a few games that if I switched just a matchup would increase that though (I have Cincy beating Cleveland in a game, if I switched those, Cincy is out and Cleveland is in).

Two, before you "homer" me on any teams doing better than you think they should.... I'm a Bears fan, and unfortunately I'm predicting mediocrity from them this year.   Hope I am wrong there, although even 10-6 didn't help last year (and wouldn't guarantee them a spot in my predictions either).

Three, the only one that bothered me a lot after I was done was the Giants, I went back to see if I could give them a few more wins, but, I felt good about starting them 0-4, and I think if that happens, that will ruin the morale a bit, so, I didn't try to look at any of the other games for wins.

I explained myself on the Giants... I said I was honestly not thrilled with the record I gave them, if they go 2-2 in those first 4 games, they probably can win some of the later games and finish 8-8 or 9-7.   That was predicated on me believing they'll start 0-4, and how that will affect the team from there.

And really, I have to defend not thinking Carson Palmer is the answer to a team's problems?

Yeah... I guess I see them as improving in the same way the Ravens made their Super Bowl run in 2000.... getting wins despite their QB play, not because of it.   I really like their defense and the running game will be solid.  Not enough to make the playoffs in my estimation, but, to improve.

Before Saturday, I would've said 6-10 at worse for the Cards. But after Saturday, I can totally see 4-12. I still think they're a 6-7 win team right now, but 4 wins is more likely than I would've thought.

the Arizona defense was pretty good, you know.  i'm not picking us to win 12, but 4 wins?  and the schedule isn't exactly murderer's row.  yeah, some good teams, but also Bucs, Panthers, Jags, Titans, Lions.  I think 7 wins is a reasonable forecast.  and as i've said for months now, I'm not buying the Kaepernick/Wilson 12 or 13 win season, as strong as those defenses are.  the second year QB always regresses.  I bet the NFC West winner has at best 11 wins.

Well, I am picking Panthers 8-8 again, so, certainly a better team than AZ.   But, that is the thing with the NFL... it is only 16 games.   It isn't such a long season like the NBA or MLB where if a team loses 2-3 more games than you thought, its a much different season.   For most playoff teams, 2 wins is the difference between being in or out of the playoffs.

preaching to the choir, friend-o.  that's why the trap game does not exist in the NFL.  the 82 game NBA season, or the NCAA where you are, say, the #4 team playing what would literally be the #34 team one saturday then the literal #7 team the next and lose to to the #37 team......but not hte NFL.

you get 16 chances.  you don't overlook dick at the NFL level, in terms of this week versus next.

I don't think NE or BAL will be hit as hard by player losses as other people think they will be.  Cincinnati and Miami seem to have records that are much higher than they should be, but both of them have really easy schedules.  Detroit and San Diego aren't good, but I'm still kind of wondering how they both have so few wins.

Jets pick up 3rd and 19 through the air.  Rex now looooooves Simms.
