Read about her being on DWTS. Both scares and sickens me....she could legitimately collapse on live television when the cancer comes back, and that's something the producers would be giddy about.

I'm reading a really interesting book about the making of the MTM Show, and there was of course a controversy with the network bigwigs about Rhoda being "too Jewish." One of the network guys told the producers that they had to be careful because "American hates Jews and beards." The writers specifically had little Bess say something about how much she liked Rhoda in an effort to make the Rhoda character more likable to viewers.

They also tried to censor an episode where Rhoda refuses to speak to her mother because they thought it was too cruel and unrealistic. And they put up a fuss over a scene where Mary uses a chain to "age" a piece of furniture and make it look antique because they thought it had sado-masochistic overtones. These were the people deciding what got on TV.

Well, I don't get it either, but even if that were a mistake made by Smitty, it would be a bigger one than that, as "Francisco Franco is still dead" has nothing to do with Gilda Radner, save that she was in that Weekend Update segment on "SNL." She didn't speak the line. She didn't react to the line. Her bit was completely separate from that line.

/just sayin'

I always get her mixed up with Linda Lavin too.
They are both the same age, look similar and played the same kind of character on their tv shows.

I always confuse her with Jessica Harper for what I assume is an obvious reason. Fortunately that doesn't extend to everyone with the surname Harper or I would have quite a difficult time when reading news about the Prime Minister of Canada. I'd hate to have to think of Rhoda as a sniveling, right-wing tosspot.

Gosh, I loved watching Alice. I also liked her bit in The Muppets Take Manhattan.
