Some of the other benfits of e-cigs and that your house/car/self don't smell, no ashes mess - I'm on board, just wish I could find a more satisfying brand.

James!: I think Ecigs would have a better time if they dropped the association with cigarettes all together.  Make them look more like asthma inhalers than cigarettes and see if anyone gives a shiat.

Some have tried that, but there is the habit association with putting a cig like item to the mouth and they didn't sell as well.

A good starting point is an ego battery setup with a Kanger t3s clearomizer. It's a relatively cheap way to get set up rechargeable and refillable. There are plenty of liquid manufacturers in the US. I get mine from The Vapor Room, which makes it down the block from my office. I've also used Johnson Creek in the past, who are very good.

This is a stretch...we don't know if they are safe, but they probably aren't any worse.

Right now, the mix I'm vaping contains vegetable glycerine (safe), flavoring (safe) and nicotine (no less safe than caffeine).

Now, I suppose I could find a traditional cigarette around here, run it over to a lab, and spend a few days trying to figure out what's in the damn thing.  I'd probably start and end with the tar and be confident that e-cigs are safer and just ignore the thousand or so other additives in regular cigarettes.

You can buy your own mixings, and find lots of how to videos on youtube. I spent 35 bucks and made 500ML of some delicious juice.

It would cost around 250.00 to buy that much.

"Current data do not indicate that exposures to vapors from contaminants in electronic cigarettes warrant a concern"

People started smoking tobacco some 500 years ago, and it wasn't until 1970 or so when those damn Libruls started this, this VENDETTA against smoking that people even started to take the dangers of smoking seriously.

Maybe further studies are warranted before giving them the AOK?

That study wasn't done by CASAA. They are just giving it some publicity. We know the effects of nicotine. The fear mongering is over the other stuff in them. American Spirits are less toxic than Marlboros, but e-cigs are less toxic than American Spirits. If you know what is going into your juice, you really don't have much to worry about.

Since April 2012 I have been using the Blu e-cig and have never looked back.  No smell, trash, ash and overall, it's significantly cheaper than tobacco.  The ONLY thing I don't like is that it seems such a waste to just throw out the cartridges when I'm done.  It'd be nice if they had some kind of returns/recycle program.  I know they can be refilled once or twice but you still have to throw them out at some point.  And as some posters have mentioned, I'm actually more productive at work because I'm not getting up for ten minutes every hour or so to go outside.  Vape in my office and keep plugging away.

My family didn't smoke but I was always surrounded by smokers growing up and didn't think much about it.  Then a lady passed away from second hand smoke, she was the only member of her family who didn't smoke.  Skip over 20 years and we had neighbors who smoked.  They just moved away and we can enjoy the fresh air again from the time before they moved in.  It can be easy to get used to it, but it is sure nice when that stink is no where around.

They have the best liquid I've found, and I've tried a lot of brands.

As far as the device, I use an eGo. There are different manufacturers and I don't even know who the original one was, but the stuff they sell at Pure Smoker is good. Will probably cost you about $70 or more for the first kit, but after that it's pretty cheap.

Look for a local e-cig shop. Every one I've been to has been very good about letting you try devices and liquids and answering any questions you have.

Probably.  But, I use this quote often to reflect how people will try to enforce their will on others because it is "for their own good" and because in their mind it is OK since they view the offending action as "evil" (or in this case disgusting).  I was hesitant to use the entire quote because of the word "disease" which can be attributed to lung cancer being an actual disease, but, I like the full quote (it usually ends with "conscience")

The same thing that comes from a fog machine, plus traces of food-grade flavorings and whatever nicotine was not absorbed by his lungs.

Yep... I don't care if they look "stupid", that doesn't matter to me. I don't care about the things at all, I don't think they need to be banned, this is just Nosey nancies with nothing better to do. How did you arrive at this conclusion? Smoking was allowed nearly anywhere, so people smoked. How is that an attitude of "exceptionalism?" If a guy lights a cigarette in a hospital lobby or restaurant knowing that it's not allowed, yes that is douchey. But every smoker I know quietly steps outside to indulge. The only rotten behavior I see these days is from self-righteous pricks who feign an exaggerated coughing fit when you're having a cigarette OUTSIDE.

They can't even use that "no ashtray nearby" excuse, I have a friend that learned to field strip his smokes in the Air Force, and they are 100% safe to throw in the trash. Hell, I even think he does it when there's an ashtray handy. Nicotine is not the thing to fear in cigarettes or e-cigs.  It's not the thing that stains smokers' fingers or makes their clothes smell or the walls of their houses yellow.  Nicotine doesn't cling to the lungs and turn them black with tumors.

The thing that does that is the tar (and who knows how many other ingredients) in regular cigarettes.

Nicotine itself is a simple, naturally occurring pesticide found in most, if not all, nightshades from tomatoes to peppers to eggplants and more.  I would put it in the same category as caffeine. Yes.  It's toxic in large doses, but it's almost impossible to consume in those doses.

Ecigs remove most (if not all) of the toxins that traditional cigarettes contain, and the amount of nicotine you're inhaling should you walk through a cloud of vapor is probably less than that of sticking your nose over a steaming pot of marinara.
