I now realize I smoke for simply one reason, and that is spite. I hate you non-smokers with all of my little black farking heart, you obnoxious, self-righteous, whining little farks, my biggest fear, if I quit smoking, is that I'll become one of you.

I have something to tell you non-smokers, and this is for you and you only, because I know for a fact that you don't know this. And I feel it's my duty to pass on information at all times, so that we can all learn, evolve, and get the fark off this planet. Non-smokers, this is for you and you only, ready? Non-smokers die every day. Sleep tight...

I used to work at a cigarette factory (I know what's in them ;-) and hate being around smokers.

But I couldn't give a flip if someone is using an e-cigarette next to me unless it is some nasty flavor.

But Ethan Hawke Sean Patrick Flanery Stephen Dorff uses them.

Yeah, I'd hate to have to start selling "cylindrical oil-based air perfumer which is similar in function but definitely not actually a smoking device, so dont use it as such" instead of e-cigs.  Having to pay for the extra warning label to be printed would really be a... drag.

Incredibly, the latest push from tobacco eliminationists doesn't involve actual smoking, which has already been driven out of polite society more thoroughly than Rev. Jeremiah Wright sermons, early David Allan Coe records, and Three's Company-era gay jokes combined

Everyone is glad those things are gone, cigarettes included.  I'm not sure how this bolsters his argument

E-cigarettes use replaceable cartridges in which nicotine or flavors are heated, vaporized, and inhaled
...
In fact, the inability to show proof of harm was one of the reasons the Food and Drug Administration's 2010 bid to control e-cigarettes as a "drug-delivery device"

I guess proof of harm is necessary to legally classify them that way but the sole purpose of the device is to deliver the drug, nicotine.  I'm not sure what the big deal is here.

Bill Hicks was a funny man, I was a smoker when I first saw him. I'm glad I didn't turn into a self righteous anti-smoker when I quit.

e-cigarettes made quitting easy and almost incidental.

This kind of BS makes me want to purchase and use an ecig.

I have seen this exact zero-tolerance crap from non-smokers and former smokers acting disgusted and douchey when they spot someone indoors using one.

Makes me want to kneecap em.

My absolute favorite is watching an obese non-smoker harping about this stuff.

Really? You think you should tell me how to live porky?

Put down the donuts and then we'll talk.

(hot, like stepping bare footed on a smoldering cigarette butt)

For close to a century smokers have acted like entitled obnoxious jerks and now they're surprised few have sympathy for them anymore? While not all smokers were/are jerks, smoking culture in general was one of exceptionalism. Blow back was bound to happen eventually and it's a bit too late to say "can't we just get along?"

Was at open mic night in a crowded little place and a woman two feet away pulled out her e-cig.  I noticed absolutely nothing at all.  I can see if they added a lot of strange scents as options, then I might be a bit annoyed.

On the other hand, I was at a play, and the woman two rows behind me walked in and I nearly choked on the cloud of perfume, she must have applied half a bottle as she left her car.  It took about ten minutes to get used to the stench.

Maybe just be courteous about what scents you inflict on others?  Especially at restaurants where you really want to experience your food scent instead of eau de old lady.

I'd imagine its because nicotine is legal. If they were to classify everything that allows you to consume legal, non-prescription drugs in a non-harmful manner as such, every coffee cup in the country would have to be labeled a "drug delivery device."

Detest smoking, but on e-cigs, I really don't care.  If you want to put fun back into it, make them phallic shaped.  Give them to your girlfriend to help her stop smoking. Enjoy the view.
Would put a whole new spin on "smoking after sex."

Of course, then the no-fun crowd would want to ban them just for that.

Do any present e-cig users recommend a particular brand of e-cig?  I tried NJOY brand, they are O.K. but hard to hit (takes a great deal of effort for nicotine "delivery") They also have a slightly soapy taste.

Some of the other benfits of e-cigs and that your house/car/self don't smell, no ashes mess - I'm on board, just wish I could find a more satisfying brand.

I smoked for 35 years, since receiving my "VAPORIZER", two weeks ago I have not bought any cigarettes, My wife also got one last week. Thats a minimum of $10. a day savings.  But for every pack of cigarettes not sold, the state loses money, of course they will try to ban them, these things make quiting the cancer sticks too easy and that is costing the government money, we will not have that, citizen!

I, probably unwisely, shot from the hip a bit there.  Here is more info directly from the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/ucm252360.htm

Under the FD&C Act, the definition of "drug" includes articles intended:  (1) for use in the diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment or prevention of disease, or (2) to affect the structure or any function of the body.

Similarly, "device" is defined to include articles intended:  (1) for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions, or in the cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease, or (2) to affect the structure or any function of the body.

Between 2008 and 2010, the FDA determined that certain electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) were unapproved drug/device combination products

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, in Sottera, Inc. v. Food & Drug Administration, 627 F.3d 891 (D.C. Cir. 2010), recently issued a decision with regard to e-cigarettes and other products "made or derived from tobacco" and the jurisdictional line that should be drawn between "tobacco products" and "drugs," "devices," and combination products,  as those terms are defined in the FD&C Act.  The court held that e-cigarettes and other products made or derived from tobacco can be regulated as  "tobacco products" under the Act and are not drugs/devices unless they are marketed for therapeutic purposes.

So, I'm getting that its not a "drug delivery device" unless its specifically marketed as being helpful or therapeutic in some way.

Makes sense as you and SacriliousBeerSwiller so helpfully pointed out.

/Haven't finished my drug (coffee) yet.

This time, the buttinskys are trying to douse the dreaded e-cigarette, a device that supplies a safe nicotine hit to the user without bothering or endangering anybody else.

This is a stretch...we don't know if they are safe, but they probably aren't any worse.

I think Ecigs would have a better time if they dropped the association with cigarettes all together.  Make them look more like asthma inhalers than cigarettes and see if anyone gives a shiat.
