(Anchorage Daily News)   Marijuana is the most popular illegal drug used around the world. At least that's what Captain Obvious shouted over the Pink Floyd CD as he licked his Doritos-stained fingers during an episode of 'Adventure Time'   (adn.com) divider line 78

Herr Morgenstern: And suddenly the popularity of Adventure Time makes sense to me. And also Regular Show. Seriously, those shows suck.

Now that's not fair. A lot of those viewers are just drunk.

Quark_Quasar: If you don't like Adventure Time, you've not only lost your sense of childlike wonder, but you're probably a sour old husk of an adult, too.

Might as well pop in a vhs season of "Murder, She Wrote", you old butts.

I have plenty of childlike wonder -- I'm a fiction writer. I appreciate that Adventure Time is very creative, but it's still a children's show. The same way that I no longer read children's books, listen to Baby Einstein, and only watch The Wiggles out of a perverse pleasure ;) -- it's just not mature enough for me.

I respect that it's a show you can watch with the kids and not be bored out of your mind, and there are some surprisingly adult references on a consistent basis, but I'm more of a "rude / black humour" type and less "silly British" humour type. I think if you like silly humour without an edge, you are more likely to appreciate A-Time.

If you're more about JCVD movies, South Park, and metal then it may not be a good fit. But it may be as well.

/I neither hate nor love the show, but my statement about it being on while at a "party" stands. Either kids are around, you're at a hipster party, or the next 2 hours involve watching a show made for elementary school kids. Not my scene, but could be someone elses.

Adventure time is great. I watch it with my daughter. Harkens back to the golden age of cartoons.

YoOjo: WhiskeySticks: YoOjo: Caffeine would like a word.

Caffeine isn't illegal. If you're not going to read the article, at least read the headline...

I'm high as a kite, I read what I saw and the word illegal looked like it wasn't there, so I went ahead and made up a bunch of my own words and posted them. Isn't that what it's all about?
We can either forgive each other for our errors, turn a blind eye and accept that mistakes will be made in this world, or we can act like a pack of hyenas and savage anyone that so much as steps out of line with whatever reality the pack choose to conform to. I'm totally happy being wrong a few times a day, you'd do well to let me be happy, then we'll both be happy and that path leads to less badness.

Something only a dope smoker would say. How about I put my foot up your ass until you straighten up and fly right you dumb ass. It is no coincidence that US children and young adults have gotten progressively dumber and less ambitious as Marijuana has achieved greater acceptance.

Headline should read Marijuana is the most feared plant in the world by the self-righteous.

Commerce is booming.

Just not the commerce most of us would prefer.

And it's exactly the reason why they will fight tooth and nail to keep it from being legalized.

What about the decline in violent crime vs the increased acceptance of weed? Sounds to me like you're in favor of a society filled with genius crack head supervillains if you're against weed, man.

Slaves2Darkness: How about I put my foot up your ass

seems to be the only option those who want others to stop smoking can think of. How about you act like a reasonable human being?

You know, when confronted with aggression as a first attempt to engender change, most people reject the proposal even if logically sound. How about education of the dangers and then most people will naturally avoid it? Like smoking tobacco is in decline now through reducing adverts and increasing education of the dangers...

Oh, that`s right I forgot, the biggest danger is you putting a foot up their ass.

I agree, Adventure Time and Regular Show are the best cartoons on right now, I watch them with my 3.5 year old. On Mondays, when I get home, I walk in and yell "what time is it?" and he replies "adventure time!" heh it's pretty cute.

Also FTA "Of the estimated 78,000 deaths in 2010 because of illegal drug use, more than half were because of painkiller addictions.
Vos said countries with harsh laws against drugs had worse death rates for addicts when compared to countries who relied on other policies to wean people off drugs, such as needle exchange programs and methadone clinics."

TL;DR a foot up the ass works opposite to the intended result not for it.

Much like Pixar makes children's films that adults can enjoy too, often on entirely different levels.  Not to mention the slowly revealing backstory.

I agree, and while I enjoy Pixar fare for what it is, it remains children's material. I'm just not into chibi / childlike lit or media. I prefer crudity, violence, and gallows humour. It's a taste thing. This kids stuff mostly bores me to tears because it doesn't appeal to any of my "triggers".

Do ANY kids watch that show? I swear only adult nerds and potheads watch it.
