I was going to make a 'women in prison' exploitation film gag, but that's just sad

McKinney would later claim that he confessed only to stop Harvey Police from beating him with pipes.

Wait, don't tell me, let me guess...

Anthony McKinney was 18 when he confessed to shooting and killing a security guard in 1978. McKinney would later claim that he confessed only to stop Harvey Police from beating him with pipes.

His lead attorney says McKinney might have been exonerated if not for delays in the legal process.

At least it wasn't his lead pipe attorney.....

OR WAS IT?????

I went to High School in Harvey. We used to have to Fight the pd after every dance/party/football game. It was like they used us for sparring practice. Once i saw my friend get choke slammed thru a lunch table during a food fight that turned into a riot. The whole cafeteria stopped fighting and started screaming "e-c-dub!!!"

/those were the days

This type of forced confession could happen just as easily today. Hell, with PRISM they don't even have to beat you, just find the right things to blackmail you.

The programs that petition for appeals and retrials for those they feel were wrongfully convicted typically have extremely limited budgets and can't field anywhere near the amount of potential cases that are brought to them.  If they had selected this guy it's a good indication that he may have had a case.  It's a shame he died before they could find out.

Yeah, what ever.

They key is to make sure and wait until any possible witnesses that could refute your new defense are dead or senile, and any damning evidence likely to be either lost, decayed or destroyed.
