It was balsa wood covered with cheap Japanese gift wrap.  That's the Roswell UFO debris.
Or it's a Soviet copy of a radio-controlled German flying disc.  The aliens were actually dwarf teenagers modified by Joseph Mengele's cohorts.  And the entire thing was a gigantic screw you from Joseph Stalin who wanted to tell the USA "Fark you and figure this one out," basing it on the classic radio broadcast of War of the Worlds.
There's nothing to see here, citizens.  Please move on to more important things like Miley Cyrus and her performance at the MTV Music Awards.

I've been interested in weird shiat since I was a kid.

Seeing how the Roswell myth has developed from the early 80s till now has been quite fascinating.

My dad knew a guy who knew a guy who had seen the alien bodies at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton. If that's not a trustworthy source, I don't know what is.

Damn, subby. Whatever your opinion is of the Roswell kerfuffle, a man is dead, and tagging his obituary with MISC is just plain cold. Obits always get the SAD tag.

I believe there are some sightings by pilots, military folks which seem pretty credible or atleast deserve some attention. The Roswell Crash is definetly not one of them.  It's such a BS story that gets better with each re-telling.

Good debunking is The Real Roswell Crashed Saucer Coverup by Philip J. Klass.  Author pokes holes in all of the supposed witnesses including this guy.  None of the original folks who were there even thought much of the crash or the supposed debris (balsa sticks, laminated materials and other stuff used for weather balloons and kites).

It wasn't even a big UFO story until the 70's.  The first stories was just a crashed UFO.  Then it became bodies recovered as well.  Then it was UFOs crashing into UFOs and multiple crash sites.

What nonsense.

*sigh*

The Roswell crash was a weather balloon - top secret, so they let the alien crash story run to act as a coverup.

While looking for debris, they found the crash site of a REAL extra-terrestrial craft, so they changed the story to "weather balloon" to cover up for THAT.

This is what confuses people.

Now, Marcel was a true hero. All the way to his death bed, he kept up the alien spaceship cover story. Sort of like Corso.

That's dedication. That story has held up for decades. It was a psych masterpiece.

Well it probably did psych out the Soviets. By '47 the US knew they were gonna get the bomb. First test was in '49.So it was a wonderful piece of misinformation to make the Soviets think we might have alien tech that could be reverse engineered.

That does bring up an interesting musing though.

What if Roswell was an extraterrestrial event, but the extraterrestrials are humans from some previous panspermia event that put life on Earth and some other world, or that were our ancestors from another world that check on this backwater colony sometimes? Then what if the government had discovered that and decided to hide the fact because it invalidates various creation myths (and thus religions), compromising a useful tool for control?

I know, pure rubbish, but sometimes it's fun to ponder rubbish.

"Greatly aided by its successful Soviet Alsos and the atomic spy ring, the Soviet Union conducted its first weapon test of an implosion-type nuclear device, codename First Lightning on 29 August 1949, at Semipalatinsk, Kazakh SSR. With the success of this test, the Soviet Union became the second nation after the United States to detonate a nuclear device."

From here.
/Sorry if I wasn't clear on who tested their first bomb in '49.

OK So Amuse Me: I now live in Roswell, kawinkidink?

I don't think so...

/Wait,

I was just through there about a month ago... It was interesting seeing all the alien related crap everywhere. We even spent the money to go through the "museum" and had more than a few laughs about the whole thing. I got a chuckle out of the eyewitness stories about the military threatening them with making them disappear and "That's a big desert, you won't be found" comments...

It was a small blip on the total trip, but this and the meteor crater were 2 of the highlights of the trip, if nothing else for the humor value here...
