Wait a minute, Saskatchewan Roughrider is already a thing?

Got dammit, does this mean I have to change my go-go boy name AGAIN!

Management at The Ramrod are going to kill me!   That's the fourth custom green room star I've ordered THIS WEEK.

Oh dear. You're not just taking our sloppy seconds. You're taking our sloppy fourths. You're taking the guy who lost a 3-way battle to be one of the two guys we pray we never have to resort to due to an injury to Aaron Rodgers.

Good luck with that.

Also you're taking a guy who wasn't able to beat out Stephen Jyles and Dalton Bell to be Darian Durant's backup in Saskatchewan.  Who are Stephen Jyles and Dalton Bell?  Nobody, they are nobodies.

Enjoy your new acquisition JEST fans!

Judging from that last Packers' game, he doesn't have the accuracy to be a pro quarterback. He's probably still better than Sanchez.

Heh, no kidding. He was stuck on the "9 game injured list" in Saskatchewan so nobody would steal him, but he never was able to beat out anybody for even a backup position. I was shocked when Green Bay picked him as a backup and thought he could be competent.... If Tom Clements couldn't make him a QB (think Matt Flynn here), then the Jets can?

I speak here as a knowledgeable fan of both the Roughriders and the Packers, my 2 favourite teams.

I too am a Melonhead.  So far this year I am quite pleased.  I look forward to the annual beating of the Blue Bombers the next two weeks.

The Jets have no O-line, no good running backs, and no reliable receivers, but think a new QB will fix it all. This is what all losing teams think. No matter who they throw out there, he will just get roughed up.

^ This!

For so many years teams used to draft some hot new quarterback with a top 3 pick then wonder why they continue to draft in the top 10 picks

Build an offensive line so you can establish a running game with any random back, draft a defensive secondary, and sign a decent defensive line

Its not that hard... Look at the teams who are always making the playoffs and this is how they do it.

I am a Melonhead living 4 blocks from the new Tim Hortons Stadium in the Hammer, with 2 rabid Argos fans, one of whom goes to the nearby dive TiCats bars in Argos gear for spit and giggles.

And we need to beat the Bombers twice. To do otherwise would be a huge embarassment, given their year to date.

Like the one year where they used two first-rounders on offensive line picks? Guys who have gone to the Pro Bowl 7x and one of whom is a 3x All-Pro?

But no, let's keep bringing out this line as though it proves how much we know about football every time a team has sh*tty "skill" position players. Their line is decent. Their problem is that they don't have a competent QB, RB, TE, or WR.

IAmRight: Their problem is that they don't have a competent QB, RB, TE, or WR.

No, it's that they don't have a competent QB. Period. You give me a badass QB in the NFL, and everything else will fall into place. I literally don't care about the rest of the parts. Give me guys who are within the band of "NFL average", and a good QB, and I'll show you a playoff team- or at least a contender. Give me the same, but with a bad QB, and I'll show you a tire fire (think last year's Cardinals).

The thing is, at any given moment, there are about 25 dudes who have the physical and mental tools to play QB in the NFL. There are 32 teams, all of whom need a quarterback. Therein lies the problem.

Gonz: No, it's that they don't have a competent QB. Period.

Sanchez was sort of competent (on the lower end of it, but still) when he had targets in his first couple of years. Last year he was playing without the only targets he had (since Holmes and Keller were injured). And they went from LaDanian Tomlinson to Shonn Greene. You wouldn't have taken anyone on the Jets' roster for a fantasy team last year and it's not because of Sanchez. The team just has zero offensive skill players.

/well, if Holmes is back I guess that makes one
//this is why I don't get why they say Rex is a bad coach - get a good OC in there and get some talent on offense. You knew he was a defensive guy when you got him.

If I hit the lottery tomorrow and won enough money to buy an NFL franchise, I'd pull an Al Davis and name myself coach. Then, the first two calls I'd make would be to Norv Turner and Wade Phillips, because they're badass coordinators.

You saw what the Son of Bum did in Houston last year. He's a defense-coachin' sumbiatch. Cleveland's offense is going to amaze people this year, because Norv has a great mind for offensive football.

But I'd rather have anyone else as head coach than those two, because they're not good at that job. Rex isn't a head coach- he's too much like his dad. Needs to stick with being an incredible defensive coordinator.

And I wouldn't really name myself HC. I'd hire Tom Cable.

Subby here, I just like getting the CFL or more specifically the Riders mentioned in a headline.  Well that and after Harrell wanted to leave the Riders after he wasn't promised the backup job in Saskatchewan without competing for it, I just like to chuckle at how his career is progressing regressing.

I enjoy him as a HC. I liked it more when he had a team that could actually step up and cash some of the checks his mouth was writing. But as someone who isn't bombastic at all, I admire that in coaches and players. F*ck the coach-speak "don't give 'em anything to put on the bulletin board" attitude and boring press conferences those become.

I'm going to slightly disagree with you here.  A big problem is with the mindset of NFL teams when it comes to the physical stature of the QB position.  If NFL front offices' would give guys built like Russell Wilson and Drew Brees a chance at being NFL quarterbacks, there would be at least 32 competent starters to go around in the NFL.  But so many teams demand their QB be 6'4'' with a rocket arm.  Teams settle for mediocre QBs who are "built like an NFL quarterback" rather than look at the damn tape and see if the guy can play the position.

As a Leos fan in Winnipeg I can assure you both have nothing to worry about. A bomber victory now is completing a game with less than 3 qb changes.
