(Rolling Stone)   Did you notice how quickly the Patriots cut Aaron Hernandez after he was arrested? That's because they were getting ready to do it anyway based on his heavy PCP use and "thug antics" at practice   (rollingstone.com) divider line 89

What a farking trainwreck.  Connecticut is amazing - rich WASPs, insurance companies, Yale, and David Letterman, cheek by jowl with colonies of PCP users.

But he was hot!

I'm going to miss him on the best looking football team.

I'm pretty sure most NFL teams would cut your ass if you were arrested for a homicide. Well aside from the ravens.

Watch it subby. I am assured the "t-word" is nothing more than a dog whistle for more racist language.

You wouldn't want to be perceived as racist, now would you?

I'd cut him for buttoning the bottom button of his suit jacket.

Trust me when I say that the "T" word is not the main reason why you are perceived as a racist.

"And though Hernandez would monkey with his home-security system, getting rid of six hours of key recordings, and smash up the cellphone he'd turn in to cops, he'd neglect to scrub all the data they contained, handing police a honey pot of incriminating evidence."

It's not surprising at all, given he's a gang member (for life, right?). The big part of the story is:

In college his coach (then-University of Florida head coach Urban Meyer) may have helped cover up failed drug tests, along with two violent incidents - an assault and a drive-by shootout outside a local bar.

I really think this will be an emerging story this year. Sorry Buckeye fans, but you guys really need to start recruiting coaches from a better class of people. The Urban Meyer/Aaron Hernandez story was a non-starter with all the attention Tebow got during his time at Florida, but now it will all be coming out.

Who the hell still uses PCP? And is it still made from embaliming fluid?

He also missed the fact that subby was referencing the article there:

• Hernandez had so infuriated his head coach, Bill Belichick, with missed practices and thug-life stunts, that he was one misstep from being cut.

Admittedly, subby mis-quoted the article, and deserves some flak.

I don't know what the author is trying to do here, but this article is damn near unreadable:

It was weird to read a "Rolling Stone" resurrection of the PCP hysteria I last remember from watching '70s TV.

Because he was dumb enough to try and cheat the system in front of the actual tester?

The no-show arrest warrant probably didn't help his appeal either.

Where did this new trend in webpage layout come from?  Bizarre wipe-over background images, skinny text column, rotating sidebar images, etc.
It's ugly and distracting - the magazine equivalent of shaky-cam.

At least they didn't hijack the scroll bar...

Look, the NFL can't police all illegal activities. I think we can all agree our children being exposed to players wearing game socks below regulation height and unapproved merchandise on the sidelines is 400x worse than a angel dust using, murdering psychopath.

Make a lengthwise incision.  Dump out tobacco. Either mix some tobacco with weed or go with just ground up weed.  Place in cigar.  Reseal.  Blaze.

There's a million you tube vids if you need a visual tutorial.

*this is incredibly harsh on your lungs and farks up the taste of good pot. only do it with ditch weed or use a bong like a civilized human being.

I'm glad USC had a "lack of institutional control" because some players took money, as far as we know without coach/AD knowledge. Meanwhile, Florida had coaches covering up for all kinds of crimes, including potentially murder. And will anything happen to Florida? F*ck no, it's the SEC, baby!

Though I suppose that's kind of an extreme amount of institutional control rather than lack thereof.

Aren't you a hawks fan? You should be happy USC got the hammer so that Pete Carrol fled. Otherwise you'd be stuck with Jim Mora.

That is EXACTLY what they mean by institutional control.  Can you cover it up so that the NCAA doesn't have to deal with it?  Control.  Does it get out so that the NCAA is forced to act?  No control.

This is not new news.

Just saying it would have been a crap shoot without Carrol who'd they get. Sure they might get Andy Reid's svelter cousin Holmgren, or they'll pull Dennis Erickson out of whatever bar he's currently throwing up at. You never know.

Sounds like his mother is a piece of work. Cheating on her husband with an abusive drug dealer. Then after the husband dying, letting the drug dealer move in where, lo and behold, reports come in that she is being abused by the said drug dealer.

And people try to say that women are not attracted to abusive "bad boys"? No wonder Hernandez was a thug. Bad parenting, drug dealers, abuse. Sounds like an urban ghetto, rather than Connecticut.

In the current NFL climate of testing, I just assume that anyone who gets caught was being so negligent and stupid with their usage that they deserved what they got.

The article actually says they told him they'd cut him AFTER the 2013 season, so he presumably could have been picked up once on any number of non-murders and been kept around because, hey, it's a mighty big salary cap hit to take if we cut you this year and Gronk is hurt so we need you despite the fact that we know you're on PCP and out of your farking mind.
