What is the ? for?

$5 * 100million people * 12 months = $6 billion.  Or, are you just flabbergasted that ESPN brings in $6 billion in "fees" before you even talk about any other revenue streams?

Not flabbergasted.  Just bad at reading comprehension.  My bad.

I have heard a lot about the channel, but I haven't heard of anything on it to tune into. Is it just constant highlight shows, or do they have actual live sports rights?

FTFA:  If the Worldwide Leader has become the sports network equivalent of Nickelback, FS1 has been viewed as rock music's White Stripes, a breath of fresh air that has made an exceedingly watered-down medium somewhat exciting again.

They have UFC, NASCAR, MLB (i think from the contract with the national FOX channel) and some college football once that starts. It'll be a while before the contracts for NBA, NFL and NHL will be up but I think they'll try to get into NHL and NBA for sure.

I really don't watch sport shows, just during NFL playoffs. I did check out Fox 1 a few times. My observations are: Randy Moss????
I don't care what Gary Payton, Donovon McNabb, Brian Urlacher, Regis Philbin and some rapper have to say.

I won't be watching this channel.

2013-08-28 12:54:30 PM
For much of the year there isn't enough sports news to support one 24/7 network.  ESPN itself has gone to pushing crap like lacrosse highlights to fill space.

In other news, Olbermann is a fantastic show.

How did the fark FoxSports1 up?  Just dont do the guy talk, countdowns, and bullshiat arguments.  Dont be ESPN.  Let ESPN have the casual fan and give the sports fan what they want: highlights, classic games, and some real in-depth analysis.  I dont farking get it.

I still remember when ESPN's block between about 8 to 11AM was Jenilee Austin bouncing that fat ass of  hers, that big ol' ghetto boody with those asscheeks just SLAMMING, and then that canadian chick doing squat thrusts with the camera showing her ovaries, then that Israeli wanker ("Gilead"?  "Gilbran"?) with those chicks on the beach, and then Kiana moaning as she did hip adductors while whispering into the camera, "can you feel that?  don't it feel good?  it kinda hurts, but keep going, i can take it".

yeah......a good time to be 13 years old when the parents were away.  *cough*

I begrudingly agree.....liked it so far

The FS1 Sportscenter-esque show is horrible....they are trying WAAAAAAYYYY too hard to be cute and "edgy" with their banter.....

No Wind Tunnel with D. Despain?  Robin Miller seemingly cast off into the night?  Fark that noise....

Well, right now they would've been better served keeping those shows. FS1 is averaging lower ratings than Speed did so far.

I boycott ESPN because I hate their army of "expert" analysts just saying stupid speculation mixed in with their "witty" banter 24-7. I was willing to give the Fox channel a chance, and they repay me with an army of "expert" analysts giving me stupid speculation mixed in with "witty" banter. Thanks guys.

i don't care about ufc, football or the talk shows that, from the ads, seems to be hosted by people who can't make it through a sentence reading from their teleprompter.

not much draw for me there.  it'll be like espn, i'll tune in for the few times they show something i am into, but i'm not sticking around other than that

At least I can watch UFC now and not have to be reminded of Charlie Sheen still being on tv.

LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys.....on SC.  It is almost like they cover teams with major stars or teams located in major cities.  I wonder why that is?

They sports specific shows are not good but they cover all of the teams.

We don't need Fox for competition to ESPN:

Golf Channel > ESPN
NFL Network > ESPN
B1G Network > ESPN
MLB Network > ESPN
Red Zone Channel >>>>>>>> ESPN

If I want NFL news, i go to their network.  If I want baseball updates, I go to MLB.  I don't need ESPN anymore and their 50,000 foot view.

Gunny Highway: It is almost like they cover teams with major stars or teams located in major cities. I wonder why that is?

colin cowherd (when i use to listen to him) used to say about the "East Coast Bias", specifically ESPNs, that he sat in on meetings where ESPN powers-that-be flatly said, "we're covering Boston/New York, because that is where the money is.  Love them or hate them, the teams in that market move the dial."

and whatever happened to ESPN's west coast (meaning, LA) footprint?  am i mitsaken in remembering about 3-4 years ago ESPN pushing for a west coast presence?  granted that was bout the time the receission kicked America in the balls, but.....it seems like that never happened.  or was i just wrong?

NHL will be a long way off....  the NHL signed a 10 year deal with NBC/NBCSN in 2011 (I am fairly certain that gives NBC exclusive national rights on both network and cable).... NBA is up this summer, so, that will be interesting, I expect Turner to stay in with the Cable only rights, but, ESPN/ABC and FS1/FOX should be battling it out for the down the road piece.   Another interesting aspect will be if the NBA decides to put some or all of the NBA Finals on cable.   I would guess "no way" if it isn't ESPN (FS1 is only in 90m homes compared to ESPN's 110m+).... but, both NCAA BCS games and Basketball final four games are on cable (or will be in future years), two of the Stanley Cup final games stay on cable, and most of the main pro sports playoff games are 70-80% on cable instead of broadcast TV as it is now outside of the finals, so, the NBA Finals going to all ESPN broadcasts in the next contract, I won't be "shocked".

This past NBA season, the Lakers and Dwight Howard were the lead in almost every night on PTI and SC (whenever I had it on).  The Lakers sucking probably didnt help with their attempt at creating a West Coast centric show.

Some regular coverage of sports gambling would be different and interesting.  I'd like to see a nightly show called 'You Got JOBBED!' about the worst officiating calls & thrown games/matches/races/fights.  Include a rundown on how much each event cost the chumps who bet the wrong way.  Of course, all leagues and venues would immediately cut off coverage access and Rupert Murdoch aint getting kneecapped for journalistic integrity.

I want to like Fox Sports Live, and I like Jay and Dan, but then they do the most ESPN thing possible by sending it over to a roundtable "discussion" featuring the "analysis" of Donovan McNabb and Andy Roddick, as if anyone cares what either of them think about anything.

Then this morning I caught Roddick's interview of Roger Federer, which was actually Roddick interviewing Federer about beating Roddick a whole bunch of times and a reminder that Roddick was #1 before Federer came along and held that spot for the better part of a decade.

no, i mean, i kinda recall ESPN saying they were establishing a studio presence in LA.  Not just a shiatty "let's cover the Lakers playoff series, live from Staples Center", i thought they were putting some roots down.

i guess i'm mistaken.  doesn't matter.  i just thought ESPN was going to do that.

Honestly I like when he does the keith lights (nostalgia of when he was on sports center mos def), but I can say I'm better informed on topics like the ridiculous sanchez bullshiat and pro college football after watching his segments on them.

Plus he had Bryant Gumble of the NFL on last night.
