vpb: nekom: I'm confused a bit.  If the alternative is an Islamic theocracy, shouldn't Israel be supporting Assad?

I suspect they are in favor of whoever kills the most Muslims.

So, Muslims then?

Israel doesn't care which side wins or loses. It's a no win situation in that the result of a clear cut victory will be either a religious dictatorship hostile to Israel or a secular dictatorship hostile to Israel. As long as Syria is in disarray Hamas and Hezbollah are largely thwarted and Iran is seriously inconvenienced. It is in Israel's interests (also Turkey's, Lebanon's and the United States') for the civil war to go on as long as possible. I can understand them passing along anti-Assad information to the US if they see the regime getting too close to winning. Likewise, they will pass along anti-rebel information (there is some evidence the rebels have also used chemical weapons) if they seem poised for victory. Crazed Arabs at each others' throats and randomly murdering their own children? Too bad about the kids, but what else is new?

Can't wait until Israel bombs the fark out of someone so he can post that "family jumping for joy" picture he did before.

/can't be the only person who remembers that

I remember him forgetting english once, posting in a breaking thread. I called him on it, he disappeared but showed up hours later and claimed it was because he hadn't had his coffee. Lack of coffee evidently makes one forget basic english grammar and type paragraphs that sound like a cliched Russian in a bad movie. After taking a look at a bunch of "his" posts, I counted at least four distinct voices.

According to a report in Ma'ariv, Israel's home front command is grappling with the problem of providing gas masks to men with beards, extremely common among ultra-Orthodox Jews. A special mask, which can accommodate a beard, is available but the high cost means it is only distributed to men over 65 or whose beards are for health reasons.

When is a beard EVER for health reasons? You want to not die in a gas attack, shave your damn beard.

People with super curly facial hair can get medical exemptions from shaving due to skin irritation, iirc.

I'm a little confused about this as well. Assad is basically Shia, the rebels are Sunni. Now, I don't pay much attention to Israel in general (not antisemitic, I'm just not from there), but who gives Israel the most grief, Shia Hezbollah or Sunni Hamas?

Hamas is a local problem of people armed mostly with rocks and the occasional homemade rocket. Iran is a sovereign state with a a real army and represents one of the regional hegemony impediments to Israel. So they will back Sunnis.

I hate conspiracy theories and their theorists, but if this keeps people double guessing themselves about being in favor of a commitment for military action against Syria, then I consider it a win.

zedster: The US has a X-band radar sitting in Turkey for detecting rocket launches from Iran, I would have to think it caught whoever fired the rockets in Syria. Why not just release the telemetry showing where the rocket fired from?

Maybe because short-range tactical missiles don't achieve the requisite altitude for detection.  You know, curvature of the earf and shiat.
